About The Position

As a Senior Motion Designer on the Human Interface Design team, you will shape how motion and interaction bring GM’s digital products to life across in-vehicle systems, mobile apps, and web experiences. This role partners closely with UX, visual design, engineering, and product teams to deliver motion that is purposeful, clear, and on brand. You will contribute to scalable motion systems and interaction patterns that elevate usability, safety, and emotional resonance. This is a senior individual contributor role with high ownership and influence across programs. Your work will directly impact how customers experience GM products every day.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Design, Animation, Motion Graphics, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of professional experience in motion design, interaction animation, or related discipline
  • Strong foundation in animation principles, timing, and interaction design
  • Proficiency in After Effects and at least one 3D tool such as Cinema 4D, Maya, or similar
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional partners including UX, visual design, and engineering
  • Ability to translate product and brand requirements into clear motion solutions
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing motion for automotive, embedded, or complex digital systems
  • Familiarity with design systems and motion guidelines
  • Experience prototyping motion for handoff to engineering
  • Exposure to real-time or performance-constrained environments
  • Experience working across multiple platforms including vehicle HMI, mobile, and web

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver motion graphics, transitions, and interaction behaviors across vehicle, mobile, and web platforms
  • Define and contribute to motion systems, guidelines, and reusable patterns that scale across products
  • Collaborate with UX designers, engineers, and product partners to integrate motion into complex workflows
  • Prototype motion concepts to support design intent, usability, and technical feasibility
  • Ensure motion meets accessibility, performance, and quality standards
  • Support design reviews by clearly articulating motion rationale and best practices
