Senior Mobile Engineer

Generac Power SystemsToronto, ON
CA$134,200 - CA$174,500Hybrid

About The Position

We are ecobee, a company that introduced the world's first smart Wi-Fi thermostat and continues to innovate in home automation and energy conservation. As a subsidiary of Generac Power Systems, we are committed to sustainable energy solutions. We are a rapidly growing global tech company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with an office in Leeds, UK, and remote employees in the US. The Mobile Energy team focuses on thermostat-related mobile experiences, as well as mobile aspects of Energy Services and grid resiliency. This team builds and operates core mobile experiences used by millions of customers, working closely with product, design, backend, data, and firmware partners. We ship frequently, operate at scale, and prioritize high-quality, reliable mobile software. We are seeking a Senior Mobile Engineer with expertise in both iOS and Android, who can leverage AI-assisted development to enhance speed, quality, and efficiency in large production codebases. While deep expertise in one platform is expected, the ability and willingness to contribute to the other is crucial, as this is not a platform-siloed role.

Requirements

  • Senior-level experience building and shipping production mobile applications.
  • Deep expertise in iOS or Android, with strong proficiency in the other platform.
  • Solid understanding of mobile fundamentals: lifecycle, performance, debugging, observability, and tooling.
  • Experience working with modern mobile architectures and asynchronous programming.
  • Comfort owning features in a large, production codebase.
  • Ability to balance speed with quality, maintainability, and user impact.
  • Hands-on experience using AI tools (e.g., Claude, Copilot, or similar) in real development workflows.
  • Ability to critically assess AI output and validate it with tests, reviews, and incremental rollout.
  • Interest in turning AI usage into repeatable team leverage, not just personal productivity.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience mentoring other engineers or leading technical initiatives.
  • Comfort working in ambiguous problem spaces and collaborating across disciplines.
  • Experience with IoT, connected devices, or energy-related products.
  • Experience operating mobile software under real-world constraints (connectivity, device variability, latency).

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate production mobile features used by millions of customers.
  • Own work end-to-end — from technical design and implementation through release and iteration.
  • Pick up work across iOS and Android as needed to unblock delivery and improve team throughput.
  • Contribute to and evolve mobile architecture to support scale, performance, and long-term maintainability.
  • Take responsibility for production quality, including monitoring, debugging, and incident response.
  • Collaborate closely with product, design, backend, data, and firmware partners.
  • Mentor other engineers and help raise the technical bar across the mobile organization.
  • Influence technical direction and help shape next-generation energy and thermostat experiences.
  • Model and share effective AI-assisted development practices across the team.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental and vision plans
  • Life, long-term disability, flexible spending and health savings accounts
  • Accrued paid time off
  • Paid Holidays (10 for Ontario, 11 for British Columbia)
  • RRSP retirement benefits
