About The Position

RBC’s Middleware Technical and Runtime Support team is the backbone of our enterprise infrastructure, providing secure, stable, and scalable WebSphere hosting environments that enable business units across the bank to deploy and run their applications successfully. As a WebSphere System Administrator, you’ll design and maintain the server infrastructure that thousands of banking applications depend on daily. This role offers the chance to work with cutting-edge enterprise technologies, collaborate across teams, and contribute directly to RBC’s operational resilience and security posture.

Requirements

  • 5–8 years of hands-on IBM WebSphere Application Server administration in large enterprise environments, preferably banking or financial services
  • Deep knowledge of WebSphere Application Server Network Deployment architecture and IBM HTTP Server integration
  • Proven expertise in TLS/SSL certificate management and platform patching/upgrades using IBM Installation Manager
  • Strong scripting skills with Jython and shell scripting; experience in ITIL-governed environments
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills with experience capturing technical knowledge for team reference, post-incident analysis, and knowledge management

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with OpenShift/Kubernetes or WebSphere Liberty containerized deployments
  • Automation expertise using Ansible or Ansible Automation Platform for middleware provisioning
  • Hands-on experience with observability platforms such as Dynatrace

Responsibilities

  • Build and configure IBM WebSphere Application Server environments including Network Deployment cells, deployment managers, nodes, clusters, and IBM HTTP Server to provide robust hosting infrastructure for various banking applications and business units
  • Design and implement secure, compliant configurations using TLS/SSL protocols, keystores, and platform hardening best practices while maintaining currency through regular patches and upgrades
  • Perform advanced troubleshooting of WebSphere platform issues and provide 24/7 on-call production support to ensure runtime stability; document findings and conduct post-incident reviews to drive continuous improvement and team learning
  • Document infrastructure configurations, procedures, and technical solutions to build institutional knowledge and enable effective knowledge transfer across the team and during onboarding
  • Automate environment provisioning and configuration management using Jython, shell scripting, and Ansible to improve efficiency and consistency across hosting environments
