About The Position

Adolfson & Peterson Construction (AP), a leading national contractor, is seeking an experienced Senior MEP Superintendent for a significant data center project near Fargo, ND. This role is crucial for managing and overseeing all field operations, including site safety, productivity, schedule adherence, quality of work, and coordination of trade contractors and suppliers. The Senior MEP Superintendent will collaborate closely with the Project Manager, owner, and design team on large, complex, and potentially multiple projects exceeding $50 million in scope. A strong commitment to AP's Incident and Injury Free (IIF) safety culture is essential, as all team members are responsible for maintaining a safe work environment.

Requirements

  • History of progressively more responsible construction leadership experience and proven results.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, architecture, engineering, or related field plus 8+ years of construction management experience OR high school diploma or equivalent and 12+ years of directly related experience.
  • 2+ years of people management experience.
  • Strong proficiency with construction management software such as Prolog, P6, MS Project, Excel, AutoCad, and project management software.
  • Solid understanding of building plans and specifications, value engineering, and life cycle costing.
  • Proven results in driving safety initiatives and compliance.
  • Current or ability to become current with OSHA 30 and company safety requirements.
  • Ability to climb, walk, lift, carry, push, and complete repetitive motion activities throughout the day.
  • Ability to occasionally lift, move, and/or carry up to 100 pounds.
  • Ability to travel to project sites and availability to accept long-term out-of-town assignments.
  • Willingness to work in various (sometimes extreme) climate conditions.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ethical standards.
  • Strong analytical and logic skills with the ability to maintain a high degree of precision on detailed work.
  • Developed skills (written, oral, and listening) in order to effectively communicate with diverse audiences.
  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously under time constraints.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build successful and lasting relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Take personal responsibility for working safely within an incident and injury free (IIF) culture.
  • Manage on-site construction activities for projects ranging from small scale to large and complex.
  • Understand all project plans, specifications, and details, and maintain a complete set of updated construction drawings.
  • Procure necessary tools, equipment, and materials, ensuring team members are trained on their use.
  • Conduct weekly toolbox talks.
  • Provide input for project start-up and close-out meetings.
  • Manage, review, and control project schedule, cost codes, budgets, and production units.
  • Oversee all site productivity and reporting.
  • Resolve project issues and deficiencies throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Ensure trade contractors meet schedule and quality standards while maintaining positive relationships.
  • Ensure project quality according to AP's quality management programs and create site-specific quality control plans.
  • Monitor compliance and performance related to quality control.
  • Troubleshoot jobsite challenges and develop innovative solutions, documenting all corrections and changes.
  • Schedule and direct all required inspections with city, government, and private agencies.
  • Establish the punchlist process and close-out procedures with the Project Manager, owner, and design team.
  • Maintain a zero punchlist.
  • Mentor and train team members.
  • Create site-specific safety plans and monitor compliance and performance.
  • Implement and maintain AP’s safety program to strive for IIF on all projects.
  • Ensure all job safety requirements are understood and implemented by all project personnel and trade contractors.
  • Collaborate with AP safety support team members.
  • Lead on-site safety meetings.
  • Review trade contractors’ safety programs and SDS information.
  • Identify and correct all safety hazards on the jobsite.
  • Report all safety incidents to AP safety team members.
  • Maintain and post OSHA and Company required safety literature.
  • Develop and maintain a positive relationship with the owner and design team.
  • Understand and communicate the owner’s construction goals to field team members.
  • Understand, develop, and manage owner and design team expectations.
  • Foster rapport between senior management and the owner.
  • Facilitate communications between vendors, owner, design team, owner vendors, and user teams.
  • Manage assigned group of Superintendents and other team members.
  • Coach, mentor, and train team members, conducting regular check-ins.
  • Participate in activities to attract, develop, and retain team members.
  • Provide input for staffing decisions.
  • Develop and manage team member performance goals and development plans.
  • Provide leadership for creating and nurturing a collaborative environment and team member engagement.
  • Resolve work site team member issues.
  • Ensure team members have necessary resources and support.
  • Collaborate with other departments during the project life cycle, including pre-construction and planning phases.
  • Provide technical expertise and participate in constructability reviews.
  • Create project schedule during the pre-construction phase.
  • Work directly with pre-construction for quantity take-offs, material selections, and pricing estimates.
  • Prepare, manage, and update the detailed project schedule, including sequence, activity duration, and procurement items.
  • Understand the contract between AP and the owner, the project estimate, budget set-up, and trade contractor and supplier contract scopes.
  • Ensure subcontractors meet all insurance requirements before being on-site.
  • Assist with procuring future projects and building client loyalty.
  • Participate in marketing efforts, presentations, and proposal preparations.
  • Help determine sequence activities and activity duration on schedules for proposed projects.
  • Maintain a network of possible and client leads and provide leads for potential projects.
  • Act as a leader in at least one external industry organization while participating in numerous others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
