About The Position

Senior Medical Underwriter Beagle Street is growing, and we’re looking for an experienced Senior Medical Underwriter to help shape what comes next. This is a hands-on role focused on post-issue underwriting, with real scope to influence medical evidence strategy, processes, technology (including AI) and the day-to-day support we provide to colleagues across the business. Requirements

  • Current underwriting authority with strong, demonstrable expertise across Life, Critical Illness and TPD (Income Protection knowledge desirable).
  • Proven experience supporting underwriting pilots and initiatives with third-party partners.
  • Comfortable providing administrative and technical support to underwriting and claims assessment activities when needed.
  • Solid understanding of key medical, underwriting and market developments in the UK life insurance sector.
  • Confident responding to underwriting queries from internal stakeholders and external insurance/reinsurance partners.
  • A track record of identifying, recommending and helping implement improvements to underwriting philosophy, processes and rules.
  • Good knowledge of UK distribution, insurance and reinsurance markets.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • Flexible, collaborative and keen to learn as our medical evidence strategy evolves.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite post-issue policies in line with agreed standards, identifying and addressing any material misrepresentation accurately and within agreed timescales.
  • Support the development and implementation of medical evidence approaches and underwriting processes.
  • Engage with and help adopt new technologies, including AI-driven underwriting tools.
  • Provide coaching, guidance and audit feedback to the internal telephony sales team.
  • Mentor junior underwriters through training, coaching and quality support.
  • Identify and recommend improvements to underwriting rules, philosophy and ways of working.
  • Act as a point of contact for pre- and post-sale underwriting queries.
  • Support reinsurer relationships and contribute to internal and external audit activity.
