Job Summary: The Senior Lead Core Medical Laboratory Technologist (Hematology) is responsible for performing high-complexity hematology testing while serving as a technical lead within the department. This role ensures accuracy, quality, and compliance in all laboratory processes while also supporting staff training, method validation, and departmental oversight activities. The Senior Lead Technologist plays a key role in maintaining operational excellence, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement within the hematology laboratory.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS), Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field required.
  • MLS certification and Florida Technologist License required.
  • 6+ years of clinical laboratory experience required, preferably in hematology.
  • Strong experience in hematology and clinical laboratory operations.
  • Strong knowledge of quality control, quality assurance, and laboratory regulatory standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and evaluate laboratory data for accuracy and validity.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience training or mentoring laboratory staff.
  • Proficient with Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) and general computer systems.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, compliant, and high-quality laboratory environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with automated analyzers (Sysmex XN-10, Sysmex UN3000, iSED, Siemens CS5100, Aquios) preferred but not required; training provided.
  • Experience supporting method validation, instrument correlation, and QC evaluation highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Sysmex XN-10, Sysmex UN3000, iSED, Siemens CS5100, and Aquios analyzers for testing patient blood and urine specimens.
  • Load and replenish reagents, controls, calibrators, and consumables as needed.
  • Perform routine instrument calibration, verification, troubleshooting, maintenance, and quality control procedures with full documentation in compliance with established standards.
  • Ensure proper specimen receipt, labeling, integrity, and preparation for testing.
  • Maintain reagent inventory and ensure appropriate stock levels are available for testing operations.
  • Review and evaluate test results for accuracy and validity prior to entry into the laboratory system, identifying inconclusive or invalid results.
  • Ensure timely completion of testing workflows, including STAT and priority specimens, in alignment with established turnaround times.
  • Accurately enter and manage test results within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Prepare buffers, reagents, and solutions while preventing contamination and ensuring proper dilution and handling procedures.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and ensure proper sterilization of equipment and work surfaces.
  • Operate micropipettes and automated multichannel pipetting systems while maintaining specimen integrity and preventing cross-contamination.
  • Ensure compliance with laboratory safety protocols, including proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), biohazard handling, and bloodborne pathogen precautions.
  • Follow all laboratory regulations, SOPs, and quality standards, including HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality requirements.
  • Collaborate effectively with laboratory staff to maintain workflow efficiency and a positive working environment.
  • Assist supervisor in training new staff and oversee technical training progress, including sign-off on competency completion.
  • Assist in evaluation of new methods, including linearity, instrument correlation, alternate assessments, and data collection.
  • Support QC system management, including entry of new QC material for lot evaluation and ensuring adherence to SOPs for QC comparison studies.
  • Provide technical support for departmental maintenance, regulatory documentation, and monthly compliance reporting for supervisor review.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
