About The Position

As the Scientific Collaborations Sr. Medical Science Director (Sr. MSD) in Oncology/Hematology, you will play a high-level strategic role driving external scientific partnerships, collaborative research strategies, and integrated stakeholder engagement across Oncology and Hematology portfolios. You will serve as a key enterprise leader bridging internal development goals with external research alliances to maximize medical impact.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10+ years of experience within the pharmaceutical/biotech industry or related clinical experience in Oncology/Hematology (such as Medical Affairs, clinical research, or business development).
  • Management experience or demonstrated strong leadership capability.
  • Proven project management, negotiation, and cross-functional leadership skills with an ability to manage multi-million dollar budgets and vendor relationships.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate complex scientific data, communicate effectively with executive leadership, and influence without formal authority.
  • Able to travel 50% or more for business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MD, PhD, PharmD, MPH, MS, or MBA).
  • Clinical development and clinical trial experience.
  • Direct experience in clinical research, US academic partnerships (cooperative groups), NCI CRADA, and alliance management.

Responsibilities

  • Drive external collaboration strategies and cultivate relationships with major organizations like the NCI, NCTN cooperative groups, medical societies, and academic research institutions to solidify Genentech as a partner of choice.
  • Operationalize external research strategies to support evidence generation, externally sponsored studies, and strategic alliances for both in-line and pipeline compounds.
  • Lead scientific congress engagement planning using an integrated omnichannel approach (onsite, digital, and insights capture) while navigating complex cross-functional review and compliance processes.
  • Act as the primary Scientific Collaborations point of contact for key cancer centers, health systems, and cooperative groups, and coordinate internally with the National MED, MSL, and HCX teams.
  • Manage non-registrational and potential registrational studies, oversee NCI-CTEP strategy and CRADA execution, and chair the Study Review Team (if applicable).
  • Forecast, negotiate, and manage multi-million dollar budgets while managing investigator-initiated studies, vendor contracting, enrollment, and publication timelines.
  • Lead internal cross-functional teams to identify strategic clinical and translational priorities across the Oncology portfolio.
