About The Position

Mitsubishi Chemical America is seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for major capital projects at our La Porte, Texas manufacturing facility. This is an opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys solving complex technical challenges, leading multidisciplinary teams, and delivering projects that improve the safety, reliability, and performance of a world-class chemical manufacturing operation. The role is grounded in leading mechanical engineering design and project execution from concept through implementation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 20+ years of mechanical engineering experience in a manufacturing, petrochemical, chemical, refining, or industrial processing environment.
  • Extensive experience managing capital projects from engineering through construction and startup.
  • Strong background in mechanical equipment design, pump and rotating equipment selection, and industrial systems.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating contractors.
  • Demonstrated success managing project budgets, schedules, procurement, and construction activities.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree preferred.
  • PE license and/or PMP certification are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical engineering projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget.
  • Manage multidisciplinary capital projects involving mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation, and process engineering teams.
  • Oversee engineering design, procurement, construction, installation, and project startup activities.
  • Lead Management of Change (MOC) projects to support plant improvements and operational reliability.
  • Develop equipment specifications and evaluate vendor proposals.
  • Size and specify pumps, rotating equipment, pressure vessels, piping systems, heat exchangers, and other mechanical equipment.
  • Collaborate with contractors, suppliers, operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to successfully execute projects.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, risk assessments, and resource planning.
  • Ensure projects comply with company standards, industry codes, safety requirements, and quality expectations.
  • Drive continuous improvement and identify opportunities to enhance equipment reliability and manufacturing performance.
