About The Position

Eaton’s Power Reliability Division is currently seeking a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer – New Product Development to join our team. This position is based at our South Milwaukee, WI manufacturing facility. Join us in a high-impact engineering role where your ideas shape the future of electrical power systems. This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technologies including polymers, vacuum interrupters, electromagnetic actuators, linear drive mechanisms, castings, and precision metal fabrications. You’ll contribute to projects from concept to production, influencing everything from system architecture to detailed component design. Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Engineering from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of five years of engineering experience

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience within the high voltage or medium voltage Switchgear domain with experience in design and development of system architecture, component specifications of medium voltage Switchgear systems.
  • Minimum of two years of experience working on large-scale design engineering projects.
  • Experience in model-based design and simulation techniques for various aspects of system design including thermal management, dielectric, advanced mechanical systems and reliability
  • Understanding of various aspects of switchgear systems and impact to the overall performance, familiarity of and application of available technologies, ability to develop trade-off analyses to enable realization of designs that meet performance requirements and cost objective solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Own subsystem development: Support new product development for padmount and overhead reclosers by taking responsibility for specific subsystems within padmount and overhead reclosers, ensuring designs meet performance and manufacturability requirements.
  • Develop technical expertise: Participate in design and technical reviews, apply best practices, and build knowledge in multi-component systems.
  • Engineer with accuracy: Perform design calculations, create Free Body Diagrams, and develop analytical models to validate performance under guidance.
  • Collaborate and learn: Work closely with suppliers and internal teams to develop components and assist in prototype builds.
  • Ensure product reliability: Support the development and execution of functional and reliability test plans using internal and external lab resources.
  • Problem-solve effectively: Assist in root cause analysis for prototype and production issues, and help implement corrective and preventive actions.
  • Grow continuously: Learn new tools and processes, and share insights with peers to strengthen team capabilities.
  • Communicate clearly: Provide timely, accurate updates and documentation to keep projects aligned.
