About The Position

Ramboll is actively seeking a Mechanical Engineer in our Binghamton, NY office. The selected candidate for this position will be expected to work across a wide range of mechanical engineering knowledge areas and have a desired focus area in heating, ventilation, and air conditioning related work. The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, performing design and engineering work in various areas of the mechanical discipline. The majority of the work will be related to heating, ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC); however, the candidate should also expect work in industrial piping, plumbing, central utility plants, compressed air systems, chilled water systems, steam systems, and fire protection. This role involves coordinating with other engineering disciplines to produce final construction drawings and details associated with mechanical engineering projects, developing conceptual designs and cost estimates for early stages of the project life cycle, and creating design drawings utilizing Revit 3D design software. The engineer will also conduct or participate in investigative energy assessments to identify energy and cost savings measures, assess and design building ventilation systems based on requirements for heat removal in industrial spaces and maintaining indoor air quality, and conduct spreadsheet analysis to assess the energy and cost savings of proposed energy conservation measures (ECMs). Additionally, the role requires utilizing building modeling software (HAP or Trane Trace) to determine envelope heat gains/losses and assess savings potentials of ECMs, specifying mechanical equipment, designing plumbing and building utility piping systems, and summarizing engineering results in written reports and/or presentations that are cohesive and of the highest quality. Site visits are required for projects involving upfit of existing systems, with a mix of day trips and overnight domestic trips expected. Adherence to Ramboll’s Project Execution Manual and promoting a safe working environment are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or greater
5+ years of experience in engineering and design of HVAC systems
Strong communication skills, (both in written and verbal)
Ability to work across a wide range of areas within the mechanical engineering discipline
Strong computer skills in the Microsoft Office suite of programs

Nice To Haves

Licensed professional engineer strongly preferred
Ability to foster a creative engineering environment
Experience with AutoCAD and Revit design software preferred

Responsibilities
