Your role at a glance The Senior Mechanical expert is a key member of the NTT Global Design Standards team, working on and delivering translation of the NTT GID Design’Product’ defined Owner Project Requirements (OPR) into the Global Reference Design (GRD). The provide regional understanding of the GRD and its engineering details as it is required to be localized and deployed through third party Architects and Engineers (A/Es). They will support in project design reviews at all stages of project design and delivery on an as required basis. They will interface with internal stakeholders from parallel business functions, the NTT Product team, regional design delivery teams, and design managers. They will consult with members of our Engineer, Expansion, Construction, Operations, Product, and Sales teams to ensure optimal design decisions are made with careful assessment of risks and opportunities. The will work closely with the Technical Director of Global Design Standards to drive effectiveness, efficiency, innovation, speed to market, and predictability at scale in the development and adoption of best practices design process and procedures. They will support in the management of the Global Design Standards team advising on workload, prioritization, and development areas.

Requirements

  • In-depth expertise in Mechanical Engineering including: thermodynamics, heat transfer, CFD, fluid dynamics, psycrometrics
  • In-depth expertise in Mechanical Systems including: HVAC, chillers, boilers, air handlers, heat exchangers, pumps, fans, etc.
  • Advanced proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software for complex designs.
  • Strong ability to optimize and fine-tune engineering systems for maximum efficiency.
  • High level of competence and familiarity with energy calculations.
  • Adept and practiced at fluid flow and heat/energy transfer calculations including approach temperature, small temperature difference, sensible load, latent load, NPSH, pump and fan affinity laws, pressure loss, fan and pump heat, kW/Ton, EER, IPLV, and the like.
  • Ability to perform psycrometric calculations and develop system state points and processes including use of wet bulb temperature, dewpoint temperature, dry bulb temperature, and enthalpy.
  • Highly developed understanding of Cx processes and test scripts.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data center infrastructure and its integration with engineering systems.
  • Operating engineering experience with large mechanical systems including BMS trending, off-normal operation, and transient analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Leadership and mentorship skills for guiding other engineers internal and external.
  • Proficient in managing personal and professional commitments while working with teams in different time zones.
  • Strategic thinking with structured and target oriented approach
  • Strong qualitative and analytical skills
  • Ability to work in multinational, interdisciplinary and culturally diverse teams
  • Passion for startup and ramp up environments

  • Acknowledged technical expert in a field of design and or specification relevant to the data center sector
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline (required)
  • 10 or more years of industry experience with minimum 5 years specifically in data centers.
  • Experience of working in multi-disciplinary design teams, preferably in a leading role.
  • Experience as design consultant / client engineer / operatins engineer / contractor engineering
  • International experience and outlook both in type of company and project experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (preferred)
  • Membership of a professional institution recognized as relevant to the data center sector (preferred)
  • Ideally has experience with hyperscale customers.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee complex mechanical engineering projects, from concept to execution, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to mid-level and entry-level mechanical engineers.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement and innovation in mechanical systems for data center infrastructure.
  • Contribute to the development and optimization of mechanical systems and upgrades.
  • Stay informed about emerging trends and best practices in mechanical engineering and apply them to enhance our operations.
  • Participate in Vendor engagement to determine technical innovation and market evolution opportunities to lead design development within the mechanical engineering discipline
  • Prepare and present technical reports and updates to senior management.
  • Primary mechanical reviewer of project design documents.
  • Provide expert guidance on the performance of engineering calculations and studies.
