About The Position

We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team. As a senior member of our team, you will work in a schedule-driven, collaborative environment, working closely with our clients and reporting to the Mechanical Team Lead. This position will be located in Ferndale, WA or Salt Lake City, UT. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Eichleay, your strong proficiency in process piping, fixed equipment, and working knowledge of rotating equipment will be key to your success. In this role, you will independently evaluate, select, and adapt engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria. You will also provide technical direction and quality review for mechanical deliverables while supporting project planning, execution, and coordination with clients, vendors, construction personnel, and other engineering disciplines.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science and/or Master’s in Mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 10+ years’ progressive experience in Mechanical Engineering for refinery, petrochemical, oil and gas, or other industrial facilities, with demonstrated experience leading engineering deliverables and providing technical direction.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including technical communication through email, writing technical reports and presenting in a group environment.
  • Ability to deal with change and demonstrate flexibility as required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Able to independently troubleshoot complex technical problems and guide teams toward practical, code-compliant solutions.
  • Well organized and able to lead multiple projects or engineering workstreams with competing priorities.
  • Consistently achieves goals, delivers quality and accurate work and meets timelines.
  • Advanced experience developing, reviewing, and approving technical documents and drawings to support the procurement, repair, or modification of fixed and rotating equipment, including pressure vessels, tanks, separators, filters, heat transfer equipment, pumps and compressors.
  • Strong working knowledge of relevant refinery standards, including but not limited to ASME piping and pressure vessel codes, various API standards, and the NBIC.
  • Advanced experience with design and engineering support for B31.1/B31.3 process piping, including flexibility considerations, hydrotest requirements, material selection, coating selection, and coordination with piping design and stress resources.
  • Ability to develop engineering scopes, hour estimates, schedules, and execution strategies, and to identify technical risks, design issues, and value creation opportunities.
  • Ability to form and foster collaborative relationships within Eichleay and with clients and partners, while providing technical leadership across multi-discipline project teams.
  • Travel to local clients will be required and can be at least one day per week for meetings.
  • Travel outside the area is expected to be minimal, less than 10%
  • HHFT Safety Training and current card or ability to obtain.
  • Client Safety Training and current badge or ability to obtain.
  • TWIC Certification and current card or ability to obtain.
  • TWIC card must be obtained prior to start date or start date may need to be adjusted.
  • Background screening including previous employment, education, criminal history, and driving record verification.
  • Participation in random drug and alcohol programs.

  • Positions will require in-person interactions and may require working on site in an office or field environment.
  • This position is subject to federally mandated drug/alcohol testing.

Nice To Haves

  • EIT/PE license preferred but not required.
  • Successful background executing projects in a refinery environment.
  • Have PE license or able to obtain a PE license in the state of Washington and/or Utah.
  • Experience as a discipline lead or senior technical resource managing mechanical engineering deliverables and mentoring a small team of mechanical engineers.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate awareness and commitment to health, safety and environmental issues. Address those issues as necessary to ensure zero harm to all employees, clients, and contractors with zero environmental incidents.
  • Lead a team of mechanical engineers for refinery and industrial clients, and perform lead tasks including scope development, design execution, quality review, and construction support.
  • Assure all mechanical engineering designs meet applicable codes and standards including company standards, API, ASME, NBIC, and other requirements used in static and rotating equipment mechanical design and development.
  • Perform and review code calculations for ASME B31.1/B31.3, ASME BPVC Sec I and Sec VIII, and other applicable mechanical design requirements.
  • Prepare and review mechanical equipment descriptions, equipment sizing calculations, equipment data sheets, and other technical documentation.
  • Prepare, assemble, and review equipment and piping technical specification packages for vendor quotes and bid requests.
  • Lead technical bid evaluations and review vendor drawings, calculations, and documentation for technical accuracy and compliance with project requirements.
  • Review and provide technical direction for drawings such as piping isometrics, layouts, section views, equipment arrangements, pipe support details and other piping specialty items.
  • Select and review welding procedures, NDE, testing requirements, coating systems, insulation systems, and materials of construction for equipment and piping.
  • Prepare and review the mechanical portion of construction packages and coordinate deliverables with other engineering disciplines.
  • Provide technical leadership during project meetings, model reviews, design reviews, field walkdowns, construction support, and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews.
  • Communicate clearly with client reliability engineers, operations stakeholders, vendors, and field contractors during scope development, design execution, and installation activities.
  • Mentor less-experienced mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance, work direction, and quality feedback as appropriate.
  • Effectively interact with all levels of employees, clients, vendors, and project stakeholders.
  • Demonstrate strong customer focus with commitment to building enduring relationships that yield customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Demonstrate commitment to continued learning and education through participation in internal and/or external training opportunities.

Benefits

  • Compensation: $115,000-145,000 anticipated annual salary may vary based on skills, experience, qualifications and internal peer equity. The pay range listed for this position is based on the anticipated base compensation at the time of the posting.
