About The Position

RS&H is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our growing Buildings Engineering team in Charlotte, North Carolina or Jacksonville, Florida. This is an opportunity to lead the design of innovative, high-performance building systems while collaborating with architects, engineers, and project managers on complex projects that improve how people work, heal, and thrive. You'll play a key role in delivering mechanical engineering solutions across a diverse portfolio that includes aviation, federal, healthcare, workplace, financial, and warehouse/distribution facilities. As a senior technical leader, you'll influence project success from concept through construction, mentor emerging engineers, strengthen client relationships, and help grow our Buildings practice in one of two dynamic and expanding locations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
  • 10+ years of mechanical engineering experience within the building design industry.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Experience leading mechanical engineering design for commercial building projects.
  • Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, mechanical building design, and construction documentation.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and reviewing technical work.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Due to federal contract requirements, candidates must be U.S. citizens or lawful permanent residents.

Nice To Haves

  • Proficiency with Revit.
  • Experience supporting business development and client presentations.
  • Project experience in aviation, federal, healthcare, workplace, financial, warehouse/distribution, industrial, or similar commercial markets.
  • Experience managing engineering staff or project teams.
  • Ability to travel occasionally to support clients and project sites

Responsibilities

  • Lead the mechanical design of HVAC and building systems from planning through construction administration.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, studies, reports, specifications, and construction documents.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary project teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
  • Perform quality reviews to ensure technical excellence and project consistency.
  • Conduct field observations and construction site visits to support successful project execution.
  • Develop innovative, practical solutions to complex engineering challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable building codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical leadership throughout project delivery.
  • Manage discipline-specific schedules, deliverables, and project milestones.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, contractors, and project stakeholders.
  • Support business development efforts and client engagement opportunities as needed.
