Creates complex designs of VIP aircraft monuments and mechanisms to meet customer criteria, quality standards, FAA requirements, budget, and project schedules using Computer Aided Drafting/Design tools. Designs complex monuments such as cabinets, bulkheads, vanities, lavatories, tables, divans, and other payload items, as well as complex mechanisms for tables, doors, drawers, divans, and other moving features. Analyzes and interprets subsystem and project specifications. Selects materials for mechanical designs based on structural needs and materials specifications, evaluating trade-offs to best meet design objectives. Works with materials suppliers and material testing when needed. Applies experience and knowledge and works with Manufacturing Engineers to optimize designs for reduced parts counts, reduced manufacturing costs, reduced assembly error, and other factors affecting production cost and quality. Understands Bills of Materials, assembly concepts, and fabrication specifications. Ensures designs meet customer criteria, quality standards, and FAA requirements. Adheres to budget and project schedules. Provides design guidance and feedback to other engineering personnel. Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge in mechanical design practices, materials, components, and software design tools. Independently finds or creates solutions to problems requiring research, resourcefulness, and creativity. Works with the Design Department to develop esthetic product designs that meet market need and customer acceptance. Provides liaison engineering support. Supports test setups preparation and test reports development. Maintains regular attendance.
