About The Position

Kurt J. Lesker Company (KJLC) is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to design, develop, and test mechanical components and systems, including vacuum chambers, robotic systems, and deposition equipment. This role leverages deep engineering expertise to drive product development from concept through production while collaborating closely with Sales, Product Management, R&D, Engineering, and Manufacturing. Responsibilities span the full product lifecycle including fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of mechanical products—within a role that offers a high degree of creativity, technical ownership, latitude, leadership and broad impact across complex systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in mechanical design
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong 3D CAD experience
  • Expert level GD&T skills

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years experience with Solid Edge or other mid-range modeling package
  • 5 years PVD, CVD, or ALD vacuum system design experience

Responsibilities

  • Design and detail mechanical components and assemblies for advanced vacuum systems, deposition equipment, and precision machinery
  • Lead engineering design activities with high initiative, sound judgment, and accountability
  • Develop and manage project plans, budgets, and timelines for new product development
  • Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) within ERP systems
  • Collaborate with Sales and Product Management to translate customer and market requirements into engineering solutions
  • Partner with R&D and scientific teams to ensure designs meet technical specifications and performance constraints
  • Work closely with internal manufacturing and machine shop teams to optimize design for manufacturability and cost
  • Source and manage vendors and subcontractors for custom mechanical components and fabrication
  • Build, assemble, and test prototypes, subassemblies, and mechanical systems
  • Drive cost reduction, value engineering, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Analyze production costs, supply chain inputs, and delivery requirements to support scalable manufacturing
  • Support product lifecycle activities including installation, application, and troubleshooting
  • Travel domestically and internationally as needed
  • Perform additional duties as required
