About The Position

Bristol Infrastructure Design Services, LLC is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the Department of the Navy. This role involves providing mechanical engineering services for a wide range of projects including plumbing, HVAC systems, digital data controls, instrumentation and control systems, various utility distribution and storage systems, energy saving and conversion systems, renewable energy/energy efficient systems/studies, and power distribution and generation systems. The engineer will also work on large utility plants, air pollution control, water and wastewater control systems, process and chemical process piping systems, piping and instrumentation diagrams, and security controls for mechanical design of major size and complexity. Projects will be for government facilities such as multi-story office buildings, steam plants, hospitals, housing, manufacturing, training, waterfront structures, laboratories, command and control centers, hangars, medical facilities, and large and complex utility systems.

Requirements

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) in the discipline of Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • Professional knowledge and skill in applying the theories, concepts, principles, computer systems applications, and methodology of mechanical engineering relevant to a wide range of construction projects and mechanical utility systems.
  • Knowledge of DoD and Navy guide specifications, criteria and policy, industry codes and standards, and standard practices as related to mechanical engineering design, including ASME standards and Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (BPVC), ASHRAE standards (e.g., 189.1, 90.1, 62.1), various ASHRAE handbooks, NFPA Codes (e.g., 54, 58, 90A, 96), SMACNA Standards, International Mechanical Code (IMC), International Plumbing Code (IPC), and the International Building Code.
  • Knowledge of local, state, federal, and foreign country laws, codes, and other statutory requirements affecting mechanical engineering design throughout the NAVFAC Mid-Atlantic AOR.
  • Knowledge of related architectural and engineering fields and their associated impacts as related to mechanical engineering design.
  • Knowledge and experience with mechanical engineering design and analysis software and other applicable DoD computer systems and software used by the Command.
  • Proficiency with AUTOCAD and/or REVIT.
  • Ability to produce results of analysis in writing and consolidate findings of others and evaluate recommendations and facts.
  • Ability to make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, planning and project management techniques.
  • Knowledge of and full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mechanical engineering services for plumbing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Design digital data controls/instrumentation and control systems.
  • Engineer solutions for chilled water, steam, hot water, compressed gasses, natural gas, fuel distribution and storage.
  • Develop designs for energy saving and conversion systems, renewable energy/energy efficient systems/studies.
  • Design power distribution and generation systems, large utility plants and distribution systems.
  • Work on air pollution control, water and waste water control systems.
  • Design process and chemical process piping systems, and create piping and instrumentation diagrams.
  • Incorporate security controls and Anti-Terrorism and Force Protection (ATFP) into mechanical designs of major size and complexity for government facilities.
  • Apply engineering principles to develop engineering designs and plans for mechanical utility systems as part of complex construction projects.
  • Produce written analysis and consolidate findings of others.
  • Evaluate recommendations and facts.
  • Make oral presentations of proposed designs and results of studies.
  • Coordinate the work of others and lead teams.
  • Ensure full compliance with Safety Policy and Guidance and use of personal protective equipment.
