About The Position

IMEG is hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer in Rock Island, IL, to lead design efforts as a project manager or lead engineer for moderate-to-complex projects. In this role, you’ll partner with engineers and consultants to provide project direction, engineering solutions, and client-focused advice, supporting code-compliant mechanical system design and implementation oversight for vertical building projects (HVAC focus). You will also support budget accountability, mentoring and training efforts, and cross-functional collaboration to meet project goals and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent, required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required
  • 7 years of experience minimum required, 8 preferred, in the building design consulting industry
  • Advanced proficiency in design techniques, tools, and concepts involved in the production of technical plans and specifications
  • Advanced proficiency in technical and analytical skills including proficiency of principles in thermodynamics, psychrometrics, heat transfer and fluid mechanics relating to mechanical design in HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems
  • Strong training, mentoring and leadership skills
  • Ability to perform final quality control check in their area of expertise
  • Ability to sell work and develop client relationships
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
  • Eagerness to adapt to new challenges
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite including but not limited to Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Ability to travel up to 20% with occasional overnight stays

Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical design efforts for HVAC (and related) systems, producing detailed designs, specifications, and calculations aligned with codes and IMEG standards
  • Perform site assessments and develop technical analyses and reports to support design decisions
  • Partner directly with clients to gather requirements, communicate technical information, and build and maintain client relationships
  • Conduct in-process design reviews (design, calculations, specifications, and correspondence) and implement IMEG quality control processes
  • Provide technical training and mentoring, and support resolution of field issues with limited support from senior staff
  • Stay current on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices; contribute to research, development, and innovation within IMEG
  • Prioritize safety in all engineering work by identifying and mitigating potential safety risks associated with mechanical systems
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (engineers, architects, and project managers) to deliver integrated solutions that meet project goals
  • Participate in project interviews and project presentations
