Harris Group is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our Portland, OR office. This role is responsible for providing professional engineering expertise to projects that seek to positively impact both the community and the environment. You will work on innovative designs and see diverse projects through development, detailed design, commissioning, and construction support. This Senior Mechanical Engineer will work primarily on projects within industrial manufacturing, life sciences (biopharmaceutical), pulp and paper, and fuel terminal piping and tanks. Additional projects may include work within process industries, air and seaports, energy, commercial development, and other business sectors. The ideal candidate brings an entrepreneurial mindset and genuine passion for mechanical and process engineering, someone who takes ownership of their work, communicates proactively with teammates and clients, and thrives in a multi-discipline environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) is required
  • Working knowledge of facility and building mechanical systems including HVAC and plumbing
  • Familiarity with process system design and equipment including pumps, fans, heat exchangers, cooling towers, boilers, chillers, conveyors, and air handlers
  • Ability to identify, interpret, and apply relevant codes and standards to engineering designs
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with clients, vendors, and contractors
  • Proficient with MS Office suite
  • Ability and willingness to travel to off-site locations and/or accept client site assignments when required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with AutoCAD, CADWorx, or Revit is a plus
  • Knowledge of Caesar (preferred) or Autopipe pipe stress software is desired
  • Knowledge of PIPE-FLO preferred

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical resource on complex designs, advancing engineering theories, concepts, principles, and processes
  • Perform mechanical design, collaborating with the mechanical staff and coordinating with other disciplines on specific projects
  • Prepare design calculations and documentation that support the project design basis
  • Prepare mechanical drawings through the use of designers or drafters, and develop specifications
  • Coordinate design with vendor-supplied equipment
  • Prepare equipment layouts and general arrangements
  • Prepare construction bid packages and construction specifications
  • Assist in the preparation and presentation of proposals, including scope of services and fee estimates
  • Support business development activities, including client relationship building and proposal input
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior and mid-level engineering staff
