About The Position

Sargent & Lundy Consulting (SLC) works on behalf of clients to support electric power projects. We evaluate and optimize technical, commercial, environmental, and financial aspects of the projects for a variety of clients. This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

Requirements

  • BSME in mechanical engineering from a Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board-accredited undergraduate program or a US based ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background.
  • 10 or more years of experience in the electric power industry.
  • Experience in detailed design of the mechanical systems of conventional power projects, specifically: Simple cycle gas turbines, Combined cycle projects, Coal fired generation, Steam systems, or Reciprocating engines (RICE).
  • Experience in development support and conceptual design of conventional power projects.
  • Excellent technical communication and writing skills.
  • Must be a citizen of a country listed in Appendix A to Part 810 of the Code of Federal Regulations.
  • Willing or able to lead others who use modern tools.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in technical due diligence and owner’s engineering design reviews of conventional power projects.
  • General understanding of power station operations and performance reviews.
  • General understanding of process design at electric power generation facilities.
  • Economic, cost analysis, and contract development experience.
  • Familiarity with international design codes and standards.
  • Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.

Responsibilities

  • Provide development support, conceptual design and owner’s engineer services to clients including performing technical evaluations of electric power generation projects and facilities.
  • Support project economic and cost analysis, risk assessments, and contract development.
  • Perform engineering design reviews, technical due diligence, project development support, and conceptual design.
  • Lead others in taking engineering problems from issue to solution by setting expectations for using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Direct automation and process-improvement work, for example, how teams automate calculations, summarize technical documents, or generate design documentation and guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
  • Oversee engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
