About The Position

This position involves designing, testing, improving, and supporting equipment developed by MiTek for the truss manufacturing industry. The role focuses on creating robust machinery designs to enhance customer production output. Mechanical Engineers will be responsible for designing, documenting, and troubleshooting all machine components, including overall machine design, structural frames, mechanical power transmission, and manufacturability. The engineer will design the complete mechanical assembly of automated machines and participate in every stage from concept to production. This role requires close collaboration with Electrical and Manufacturing Engineers, as well as other teams such as Production, Software, and Customer Service, to ensure successful product delivery. Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • 8+ years of mechanical engineering design experience required
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute on a year for year basis
  • Strong understanding of strength of materials, statics, and dynamics
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks, PDM, and AutoCAD Mechanical
  • Proficiency in machining and welding symbols with experience in GD&T analysis
  • Proficiency in pneumatic, hydraulic, and electro-mechanical systems
  • Ability to rapidly diagnose and troubleshoot automated systems
  • Ability to work individually and as part of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and deadlines
  • Strong planning, organizational, and decision-making skills
  • Strong communication skills to interact frequently with stakeholders
  • Up to 20% of time traveling for critical on-site activities

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, evaluate, and support automated industrial machinery products with focus in the Component Manufacturing (CM) and off-site construction industry
  • Lead team members through the planning, development, and deployment of complex mechanical architectures with a high level of integrated automation
  • Generate mechanical project execution artifacts of small to large scale deployments (i.e. cost estimates, schedules, resource needs, risks, forecasts, status, etc.)
  • Lead mechanical team members through staged-gating process (i.e. requirements reviews, design reviews, test readiness reviews, verification reviews, etc.)
  • Lead team members through troubleshooting, root cause and corrective actions
  • Design, integrate, test mechanical parts and assemblies using industry best practices
  • Design, integrate, test industrial pneumatic and hydraulic systems
  • Design, integrate, test industrial electro-mechanical and robotic systems
  • Develop and maintain project documentation (i.e. system requirements, engineering drawings, equipment manuals, test plans, project notes, etc.)
  • Ensure compliance with MiTek engineering procedures, guidelines, industry standards, and governmental regulations applicable to industrial machinery
  • Perform engineering analysis and calculations where applicable (including FEA analysis)
  • Enter new or update existing data in MRP/ERP system
  • Support Manufacturing, Marketing & Sales, Purchasing, Installation, and Customer Service Organizations throughout a product’s lifecycle
  • Review/stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
  • Mentor less experienced mechanical engineers and designers
  • Manage individual tasks while leading other mechanical and robotic engineers through project execution with minimal oversight
