The Strategic Defense Solution (SDS) team is seeking a highly motivated Senior Level Mechanical Engineer that enjoys contributing to the analysis, design updates, and documentation of military equipment. This individual will provide structural analysis to the design groups as well as design inputs, changes, and considerations as required. This position will require working with other mechanical engineers to properly analyze, document, and report analysis findings to customers in the form of deliverable items that support downstream military applications and certifications. This is an onsite position located in Largo, FL.

Requirements

  • The ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience with thermal issues using computational fluid dynamics software (ANSYS Icepak or comparable).
  • Previous experience with modal analysis, internal stress loading, fatigue, and margins of safety calculations and documentation, as well as with finite element analysis software for structural considerations (ANSYS Mechanical or comparable).
  • Prior knowledge of PLM/PDM software, PTC Windchill, and 3D CAD software (preferably PTC Creo).

Nice To Haves

  • Active DoD security clearance or Top Secret Clearance.
  • Practical skills in designing electronics packaging designs (enclosures and/or racks) with strict size, weight, and power (SWaP) criteria, as well as environmental (static and dynamic) mitigation.
  • Previous experience with designing printed circuit boards (PCBs) and supporting non-mechanical duties like component layout and selection to guarantee mechanical environmental considerations are fulfilled.
  • According to ASME Y14.5 standards, interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Previous experience with military standards such as MIL-STD-810 and MIL-STD-1472.
  • Extensive knowledge of Jira-driven hardware development techniques and abilities designing and qualifying devices for extreme environments.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate technical topics and issues in a clear and concise manner to both technical peers as well as non-technical team members.
  • Conduct and provide constructive feedback during peer reviews. Mentor and document knowledge to provide technical guidance to both members of own team and beyond.
  • Work proactively with an integrated product team (IPT) to identify risks and opportunities.
  • Coordinate with and contribute to design teams on designs to ensure robust design choices and compliance with program requirements for environmental needs, such as shock, vibration, and crash loading per MIL-STD-810 loads.
  • Document results from analyses both for internal and external customers such that data can be easily referenced in the future or support customer certification on military platforms.
  • Participate in and lead investigations into highly complex, open-ended tasks. Search for and identify root cause of issues.
  • Create military compliant designs that incorporate custom machined/sheet metal parts with a selection of commercial off the shelf items as required.
  • Work with designers and drafters to create, modify, and release documentation such as part and assembly drawings.
  • Contribute to testing activities to verify product requirements compliance and correlation to relevant analyses.
