About The Position

Boston Engineering is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer - R&D to join their team. This role involves providing mechanical engineering design and development of innovative products from concept through production. The engineer will design, build, and test proof-of-concept models, breadboards, prototypes, and production-ready designs. The position requires expertise in motion systems, motion controls, robotics, and precision electromechanical design. Collaboration with cross-functional teams, including electrical, software, systems, and manufacturing engineers, is essential. The role utilizes Creo and/or SolidWorks for mechanical design and documentation, and involves performing engineering analyses, developing product specifications, and creating design documentation. Principles of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and design for cost and reliability will be applied. The engineer will also support proposal development, technical estimates, customer engagements, and contribute to rapid prototyping and iterative product development. Ensuring compliance with Boston Engineering's Quality Management System and engineering best practices is also a key responsibility.

Requirements

  • 8–10+ years of mechanical engineering experience focused on new product development
  • Demonstrated success bringing complex products from concept through manufacturing
  • Experience designing high-precision electromechanical systems
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and prototype development
  • Experience designing products for underwater or marine environments
  • Proficiency with Creo and/or SolidWorks
  • Experience developing products that integrate mechanical, electrical, and software systems
  • Strong understanding of DFM, DFA, design for cost, and reliability engineering
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Previous experience working within an engineering services or product development consulting environment
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) programs is a plus
