About The Position

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer - Gas Power Generation, you'll perform advanced engineering design, analysis, and technical oversight across assigned projects and disciplines, operating as a key technical contributor delivering safe, economical, and code-compliant designs. The Senior Mechanical Engineer - Gas Power Generation manages working relationships with Owners, Engineers of Record (EOR), and third-party engineering firms, provides mentorship and technical leadership to junior engineering staff, and is expected to communicate deliberately and purposefully, manage multiple concurrent projects, and maintain design quality and schedule conformance across all phases of the engineering lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, or related field, from an ABET accredited college or relevant equivalent industry experience.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressive engineering and/or engineering supervisory experience in a related industry (e.g., civil/structural, electrical, industrial, utilities, or power generation). Experience spanning both pre-construction/estimating and project execution phases is valued.
  • Interpersonal skills — ability to supervise, influence, and persuade people and groups toward common objectives.
  • Working knowledge of utility-scale engineering equipment and applications within relevant discipline(s).
  • Effective communication skills (oral, written, listening, presentation) to work effectively with owners, EOR firms, vendors, employees, and internal stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Working knowledge, experience, or interest in AI (Artificial Intelligence).
  • Excellent organizational, scheduling, planning, and prioritization skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and proposals with a drive for results supported by a sound process.
  • Uses logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions and approaches to problems.
  • Accounting skills — familiarity with math, record-keeping, and cost tracking to manage engineering budgets and report on cost performance.
  • Ability to work with and handle sensitive and confidential information.
  • May be required to become a qualified individual in pursuit of company contract licensing.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle driving record (MVR).
  • Estimated to require travel up to 25% of time, subject to fluctuations based on project and business needs.

Nice To Haves

  • PE license preferred with an emphasis on mechanical engineering.
  • Simple-cycle, reciprocating engine, and combined-cycle power generation systems; mechanical equipment sizing and selection; power quality and reliability analysis; economic analysis and value engineering; equipment vendor coordination.

Responsibilities

  • Leads across the applicable engineering lifecycle —pre-construction estimating, bid-phase design, and project award or project award, design delivery, construction support, and closeout — with emphasis on schedule conformance and financial impact at each phase.
  • Supports pre-bid site assessments and constructability reviews to identify risks and opportunities prior to project award.
  • Ensures designs satisfy the power plant's design requirements through compliance with local, state, and international building codes, Owner contracts, and company best practices.
  • Delivers designs that provide the most economical solution to satisfy project requirements.
  • Responsible for Basis of Design (BOD) development and RFI management for assigned projects and disciplines.
  • Leads drawing and design reviews to ensure designs meet industry standards, Blattner's best practices/Standards, and support safe work practices in the field.
  • Performs equipment and material quantity takeoffs; ensures accuracy and completeness and validates outputs before submission.
  • Coordinates with other Engineers and discipline leads to establish design schedules, resource plans, and cross-discipline coordination across estimating and project phases.
  • Coordinates with owners and EOR teams on engineering submittal milestones, review timelines, procurement deliverables, page turns and AHJ outreach.
  • Leads contract and subcontract reviews and provides technical recommendations. Escalates high-risk issues to Manager and Director leadership as appropriate.
  • Leads coordination with Integrated Supply Chain (ISC), Estimating, and Construction teams on equipment and material selection, vetting, and approval.
  • Collaborates across company departments, vendors, and outside engineering firms to explore innovative ideas, methods, materials, and technologies that promote safety, lower cost, and increase efficiency.
  • Partners with construction management teams to facilitate design understanding as construction commences; ensures field teams have the plans, quantities, and parameters needed to build.
  • Communicates deliberately, intentionally, and purposefully with owners, EOR teams, estimating personnel, project engineering staff, and other internal stakeholders across all phases of work.
  • Adheres to the company's cultural basics and the National Society of Professional Engineers' code of conduct. Solves problems using factual evidence and sustainable solutions that are safe, transparent, and documentable.
  • Champions change management discipline — ensures scope changes, quantity changes, and design deviations are clearly documented, communicated through change narratives, and resolved at the appropriate level.
  • Captures and shares lessons learned, providing feedback to both estimating and project engineering teams to continuously improve design quality and proposal competitiveness.
  • Mentors, trains, and onboards Engineer I/II staff; builds skill sets through deliberate coaching, feedback, career development conversations, and work product review.
  • Identifies opportunities to streamline work and reduce waste to improve team efficiency.
  • Attends job/career fairs on occasion to support new employee hiring.
