We design, develop, document, deploy, and support COTS-based and custom designed systems, which use the power of the network to share information and aid in decision-making. These systems allow end users to protect people and property. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will join our Hardware Engineering Team as part of our Connected Aviation business. This is an opportunity to join a team supporting the next generation Air Traffic Control (ATC) systems, as well as providing support to existing fielded systems. We are seeking a mechanical engineer with experience in electronic design, comfortable working with commercial off-the-shelf and custom hardware designs to achieve system requirements. This opportunity requires a combination of classic design techniques, modern electronics knowledge, and hands-on prototyping skills.

Requirements

  • Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience.
  • Experience completing technical documentation relating to Configuration Control, Change Management, Trade Studies, Preliminary and Detailed Design artifacts and presentations
  • Experience with Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA)
  • Proficient in 3D modeling and drawing creation in Creo, including GD&T and tolerance analysis
  • Proficient with cable design
  • Must have an understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to them
  • Prior experience collaborating in a multi-functional environment (ex: field engineering, supply chain, suppliers, customers)
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis, qualification and acceptance testing on components, assemblies, mechanical fixtures and/or structures.
  • Perform and/or oversee preliminary and detailed design activities, ensuring the technical integrity of products meeting all program requirements.
  • Demonstrate creativity in electronics packaging design using 3D CAD modeling and thermal analysis, ensuring robust and efficient solutions.
  • Spearhead prototyping and lab integration efforts, applying hands-on expertise to bring concepts to life effectively.
  • Lead or participate as an independent reviewer in peer reviews to ensure documented processes are followed, work products are validated for producibility and affordability, and proper documentation standards are followed.
  • Conduct testing/COTS evaluation activities in the lab in support of Engineering Change Proposals.
  • Support production activities, including potential travel up to 10% to suppliers to the Merrimack, NH Manufacturing facility, ensuring smooth processes and high quality outcomes.
  • Mentor junior engineers along the development cycle of a product, instilling engineering excellence by capturing lessons learned and documenting best practices.
  • Interface with other disciplines (Configuration Management, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, Supply Chain) in support of product development.
  • Opportunities to lead a small team of hardware development engineers in support of Engineering Change Proposals.
