About The Position

PROENERGY is an engineering, R&D, and manufacturing powerhouse that addresses every need for fast-start power generation. The company delivers innovative aeroderivative solutions and is investing significantly in infrastructure. This role, based in the Kansas City Office, emphasizes a ONE-TEAM approach, requiring seamless collaboration between Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Start-Up, Document Controls, and Operations teams. The Senior Mechanical Design Manager will report to the VP PowerFLX Engineering and will be responsible for maintaining and coordinating the power plant design system, including 3D software and material databases. This role involves allocating resources, collaborating with integrated EPC teams and clients, and providing design oversight to subsidiaries. Adaptability and flexibility are key as the manager will coordinate multiple jobs and develop guidelines and procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or associate degree in drafting technology, design, or related fields.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in related work experience.
  • Advanced ability to utilize both 2D and 3D applications to prepare engineering drawings.
  • Advanced understanding of design software such as: Plant 3D, E3D, SCADA Systems Elecdes/PanelDES, Smartplant 3D, AutoCAD, MicroStation, and Excel to develop the design deliverables.
  • Ability to learn and effectively utilize new design software programs.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and manage numerous projects/tasks simultaneously, frequently within an aggressive and compressed schedule.
  • Independently applies knowledge and ensures compliance with quality program.

  • Advanced knowledge in the theory and practices of mechanical discipline; competent in the fundamental concepts of other disciplines as they relate to the project team; and capable of operating related discipline design software necessary to execute production tasks.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others including, but not limited to Project Managers, Engineers, Designers and constructability personnel in a multi-disciplined project team environment to resolve design or drawing issues as appropriate and to accomplish our goals.
  • Must be fluent in English, with strong speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous Lead or Senior Designer Experience in EPC Power Industry (Mechanical Discipline).
  • Aconex Document Controls software knowledge.
  • Clear understanding of construction and constructability practices & principles.
  • Working knowledge of technical aspects of the proposal and estimate process.
  • Owner or Client engineering background.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage PowerFLX turn-key EPC projects in an Autodesk Plant 3D environment.
  • Work with IT to manage the Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC) and model reference files for all disciplines.
  • Create and manage databases that feed the model, including pipe codes and project files.
  • Work with Project Engineering Management to create baseline schedules for projects and participate in forecast reviews.
  • Design and route piping systems and model 3D equipment items for power plant systems, including simple cycle gas balance of plant systems.
  • Plan and develop drawings for production work, including problem analysis, design layout, and calculations.
  • Manage and lead a team of multidisciplinary designers, allocating resources based on project needs.
  • Foster high-performing teams and behaviors to execute projects.
  • Mentor and develop team members, providing technical guidance.
  • Seek ways to improve customer satisfaction, work product quality, and operating efficiencies.
  • Help develop, review, and implement guidelines and procedures to ensure design standardization and templating of PowerFLX work.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest technology and industry practices and find practical applications.
  • Interpret and incorporate design codes and specifications related to design requirements.
  • Work collaboratively with construction and start-up teams for early input and design reviews of piping and mechanical systems.
  • Perform work safely and effectively.
  • Understand and follow oral and written instructions, including warning signs, equipment use, and other policies.
  • Work during normal operating hours to organize and complete work within given deadlines.
  • Work overtime and weekends as required.
