About The Position

Lockheed Martin Space is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team. This position supports spacecraft, missile, hypersonic, or other advanced aerospace platforms operating in extreme and highly dynamic environments. The role involves overseeing the end-to-end mechanical design of a complex missile system, including management of mechanical interfaces and resolution of mechanical integration issues through coordination between suppliers and internal design teams across all lifecycle phases. Daily activities include technical leadership of a multi-site team, planning future activities, briefing leadership on progress and challenges, and driving integrated technical solutions to closure.

Requirements

  • Experience with mechanical design and/or manufacturing, with the ability to interpret and/or apply detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and/or bill of materials.
  • Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals, including structural analysis, material properties, stress/strain evaluation, and/or engineering calculation methods.
  • Experience with CAD platforms (e.g., Creo, I DEAS, SolidWorks, Catia)
  • Familiarity with model based product definition (MBD) practices to create, validate, and/or manage digital product data.
  • US Citizenship required with the ability to obtain and maintain a DOD Secret security clearance.
  • Minimum 3 years of full time professional engineering experience in a mechanical or aerospace environment.
  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a closely related technical field or equivalent hands on experience.
  • Active DoD Secret clearance

  • Knowledge of composite structure design and fabrication

  • Experience supporting production of missile or spacecraft hardware
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in fast changing environments, quickly adjusting to evolving requirements, shifting priorities, and dynamic project schedules while maintaining high quality deliverables.
  • Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills; capable of articulating complex technical concepts clearly.
  • Proven ability to build strong, collaborative relationships with internal teams and external customers, ensuring alignment and successful project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in issue resolution and develop solutions to technical problems of varying complexity while assuring sound technical content and timely closure.
  • Develop, review, and maintain engineering documents, specifications, and technical analyses necessary to support product build and testing activities.
  • Generate and release drawings using CAD software.
  • Be a member of multiple integrated product teams, interacting with other engineers, manufacturing personnel, suppliers, and customers.
  • Represent the organization in design reviews, readiness reviews, and review boards.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing personnel to supervise the build and test of the hardware in the production facility.
