About The Position

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Material Quality Engineer to lead and strengthen our Incoming Material Quality and Metrology function. This is a senior, hands on role for a quality professional who thrives at the intersection of precision measurement, engineering collaboration, and leadership. You will own incoming inspection strategy, advanced metrology, calibration oversight, MRB participation, and material quality problem solving. You will work independently, interface daily with cross functional partners, and serve as a trusted technical leader within the Quality organization. This role is ideal for someone with a strong automotive background, deep CMM and GD&T expertise, and a desire to mentor others while influencing product quality early in the design and production lifecycle.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of progressive experience in Quality Engineering / Quality Assurance roles
  • Extensive experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally automotive or automotive‑adjacent
  • Advanced expertise in CMM programming and operation
  • Expert‑level knowledge of GD&T and dimensional inspection
  • Hands‑on experience with precision measurement tools and portable metrology systems
  • Proven ability to work independently, manage priorities, and lead through technical influence
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and cross‑functional collaboration skills

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • Automotive OEM or Tier‑1 supplier experience
  • Experience with FAI, MRB, SPC, MSA, APQP, and PPAP
  • Background supporting prototype builds and early production programs

Responsibilities

  • Lead incoming inspection activities to ensure materials meet engineering and quality requirements before entering production
  • Define inspection strategies, including methods, sampling plans, frequencies, and acceptance criteria
  • Identify critical characteristics and ensure appropriate controls are applied
  • Manage quarantine material and support Material Review Board (MRB) activities
  • Create, maintain, and optimize CMM inspection programs
  • Operate and support advanced metrology equipment including CMMs, Romer Arms, laser scanners, and optical systems
  • Serve as a subject‑matter expert in GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and blueprint interpretation
  • Provide guidance on datum strategy, fixture concepts, and inspection feasibility
  • Support the acceptance of prototype builds and First Article production as appropriate
  • Provide dimensional and metrology expertise for FAI and early production releases
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Manufacturing during new part introduction
  • Support analysis of field service returns in conjunction with Customer Quality Engineers
  • Provide dimensional and material expertise to aid root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Help drive feedback to Engineering, Supplier Quality, and Manufacturing
  • Interface daily with Supplier Quality Engineers (SQEs), Production Quality, Manufacturing, and Engineering
  • Participate in issue resolution meetings and critical part design reviews
  • Act as a quality voice in design for manufacturability and inspectability discussions
  • Lead, mentor, and develop material quality and inspection team members
  • Conduct training sessions on GD&T, CMM programming, inspection techniques, and metrology best practices
  • Serve as a key technical leader within the senior Quality Assurance team
  • Support and contribute to regular quality reporting using various reporting and dashboard tools
  • Communicate material quality status, risks, trends, and improvement actions to Quality leadership and cross‑functional stakeholders
  • Use data to help prioritize work, improve visibility, and drive continuous improvement initiatives
