Senior Materials and Process Engineer

Infleqtion•Louisville, CO

About The Position

Infleqtion is a global quantum technology company that builds and integrates quantum computers, sensors, and networks. The Senior Materials and Process Engineer will support the conception and maturation of quantum products, developing and testing specialized processes that include glass substrate processing, glass and dissimilar-material bonding, silicon wafer processing and testing, thin-film characterization, laser processing, and electrical integration. The role combines self-directed work with collaboration among physicists, engineers, technicians, and business personnel. The engineer will develop materials bonding and fabrication techniques for vacuum cells, vapor cells, and quantum components; collaborate with cross-functional engineering and physics teams to define mechanical and optomechanical requirements; produce technical and manufacturing documentation; and validate processes through experiments, hands-on testing, and statistical analysis. The position may also support root-cause analysis and failure investigations, as well as other assigned projects. Work is normally performed in an office environment. Up to 5% travel may be required. The role may require access to information subject to U.S. export control laws; employment may be conditioned on authorization to receive controlled software or technology without sponsorship for an export license.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, materials science or materials engineering, engineering physics, or a similar field.
  • At least 4 years of experience in an industry or academic environment working on materials processing, product design, product development, and testing.
  • Experience selecting and testing adhesives or epoxies, ideally for low-outgassing applications.
  • Experience with some microscale and/or nanoscale processing, such as MEMS design and testing or wet-bench etching, cleaning, and processing.
  • Experience with several materials characterization and elemental analysis techniques, including high-resolution microscopy, SEM, EDS, XPS, SIMS, XRD, and X-ray CT scanning.
  • Experience with laser systems and laser safety; optics and optomechanics experience is ideal.
  • Experience with vacuum processing and UHV systems, including designing and troubleshooting them; helium leak checking or bomb testing experience is relevant.
  • Proficiency with physical vapor deposition technologies, including ion-beam and/or magnetron sputtering.
  • Proficiency with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and/or multiphysics modeling, such as COMSOL.
  • Proficiency with DOE/SPC/CIP techniques and software such as JMP and/or MiniTab.
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software, including drawing tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Proficiency in MS Office and SharePoint.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to share information effectively with technical and non-technical staff.
  • Good collaboration skills and ability to participate effectively in a team environment.
  • May need authorization to receive software or technology controlled under U.S. export control laws and regulations without sponsorship for an export license.
