Senior Marine Cable Systems Design Engineer
About The Position
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Marine Cable Systems Design Engineer to lead the engineering and design of shipboard cable infrastructure supporting advanced communications, networking, and mission systems for U.S. Government and Defense shipbuilding programs. This position is responsible for the complete engineering design package from concept through production, ensuring compliance with NAVSEA standards, military specifications, ABS requirements, and customer technical data packages. This role is responsible for the design, specification, testing, and integration of high-performance cables capable of operating reliably in demanding maritime environments. The ideal candidate will combine electrical engineering expertise with knowledge of marine standards and mechanical integration.

- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years of experience in cable design, electrical interconnects, or marine systems
- Understanding of signal integrity, shipboard power distribution, and EMI/EMC principles
- Experience with marine or harsh-environment design requirements
- Proficiency in CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar)
- Knowledge of applicable standards (MIL-STD, IEC, IEEE, ISO, ABS, DNV)
- Ability to read and develop electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Experience with naval or shipboard communication/navigation systems
- Familiarity with fiber optic and high-speed data cable design
- Understanding of ruggedized and waterproof connector systems
- Experience supporting production or manufacturing processes
Responsibilities
- Design and develop custom shipboard cables for communication, navigation, and control systems
- Define cable architectures, including cable and conductor selection, connector, backshells, and pins
- Define required tooling and manufacturing process for cable assemblies designed
- Define electrical connections and pinouts to support system design and equipment connections for signal, power, RF, and custom data cables
- Ensure compliance with marine and military standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, MIL-STD, IEEE, IEC)
- Perform electrical, mechanical, and environmental analysis (EMI/EMC, vibration, temperature, saltwater exposure)
- Create detailed engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
- Create manufacturing drawings and assembly processes for custom cables
- Collaborate with system engineers and installation teams to ensure seamless integration
- Support prototype development, testing, and validation of cable assemblies
- Troubleshoot and resolve cable performance issues during design, installation, or operation
- Work with vendors and manufacturers to source materials and ensure quality production
- Participate in design reviews and provide technical recommendations
