About The Position

The Senior Dockmaster is responsible for serving marina customers and guests and overseeing the day-to-day duties of the marina staff. This role acts as the Marina GM when the Director of Marinas is not present. The Senior Dockmaster also maintains the cleanliness of the marina and performs various operational duties.

Requirements

  • Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests about job-related needs.
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • One to Two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Detail oriented and thorough.
  • Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests.
  • Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards.
  • Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant friendly way.
  • A broad knowledge of marina operations, boat lifting, boat handling and towing, plant and equipment maintenance.
  • Proven skills or the willingness to be trained in administration, seamanship, communication, health and safety, plant and equipment maintenance and marina operations.
  • Familiarity with common marina operational documentation (e.g. agreements, contracts, terms and conditions, marina rules and regulations etc.) and the ability to analyze them.
  • Positive attitude combined with the ability to communicate fluently and relate well to customers in the leisure environment and the ability to manage and motivate staff.
  • Commercial awareness and an eye for detail in all aspects of work.
  • High standards of presentation and accuracy in written work.
  • Proficient swimmer.
  • Full driving license.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move items weighing up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 75 lbs occasionally with assistance or tools for heavier items.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often on wet, uneven, or slippery surfaces while performing tasks.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, reaching, or working in awkward positions.
  • Manual dexterity required for operating tools, equipment, and handling lines or supplies.
  • Ability to push or pull cards, boats, or equipment as required.
  • Adequate vision and hearing for identifying safety hazards, inspections, and effective communications.
  • Swimming proficiency required for safety around water.
  • Ability to assist in emergency situations, which may involve physically demanding tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Provides the highest level of customer and guest services, expedites any and all requests from vessels including transport of patrons and baggage to and from dockside, delivery of provisions and packages.
  • Coordinate closely with the marina team and dock staff to ensure smooth operations.
  • Lead, manage, and develop all marina staff, including dock staff, and service leadership.
  • Carries out routine cleaning duties that meet established quality standards for all marina-related operations; ensures the recognized standards are maintained and that quality, and delivery commitments are met.
  • Assists other Dockmasters and Dockhands in marina related duties such as securing boats to docks, connecting and monitoring utility services (power, water and telephone), black water pump out, waste disposal and facility sanitation.
  • Routinely operates, motor and water vehicles and other various mechanized equipment.
  • Provides general security and supports marina and facility security teams in their security related efforts; reports disturbances in dock area to superiors and maintains general vigilance.
  • Assists refueling operations when required at the marina refueling facility, ensures safe refueling procedures.
  • Provides service to marina and facility guests and carries out routine marina maintenance.
  • Complying with instructions or duties as may be reasonably assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.
