Collins Aerospace Electric Power Systems is advancing next-generation manufacturing through the deployment of collaborative robotics, automated inspection systems, and connected digital platforms at our Rockford facility. We are seeking a Senior Manufacturing Systems Engineer to play a critical role in both the deployment and long-term sustainment of these advanced manufacturing systems. In this role, you will serve as a process subject matter expert (SME) during implementation and as the primary technical owner responsible for ensuring stable, efficient, and high-performing systems in production.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 5 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 3 years of experience
  • Experience within a manufacturing environment with exposure to automated or robotic systems.

Nice To Haves

  • Ability to read and interpret PLC logic, robot programs, and vision system configurations
  • Experience sustaining robotic or automated inspection systems in a production environment
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across operations, engineering, and external partners
  • Familiarity with digital work instruction platforms and/or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES)
  • Experience in aerospace or other highly regulated manufacturing environments
  • Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement experience

Responsibilities

  • Support active automation deployments by contributing manufacturing engineering and process knowledge to the implementation team.
  • Participate in system validation, process trials, and production readiness reviews.
  • Own day-to-day system performance post-deployment, including troubleshooting, monitoring, and continuous optimization of robotic and vision systems
  • Serve as the primary shop floor technical interface between operations, controls engineering, and external automation vendors
  • Monitor and analyze system performance metrics (uptime, cycle time, quality yield) and lead issue resolution when gaps arise.
  • Maintain and improve digital work instructions and operator interfaces supporting automated work centers
  • Provide core manufacturing engineering support, including process documentation, structured problem solving, and continuous improvement initiatives.
