Senior Manufacturing Engineer – Precision Machining

Reata Engineering & Machine Works•Centennial, CO
•$100,000 - $135,000

About The Position

Reata Engineering & Machine Works is seeking an experienced manufacturing engineer to develop and improve precision machining processes in a high-mix environment serving aerospace, defense, medical, and other demanding industries. The role bridges developing engineers and experienced manufacturing staff, combining hands-on problem solving with mentoring and process development. The engineer will take complex parts from print and model through processes that work on the shop floor, selecting machines, sequencing operations, defining tooling and workholding, and establishing inspection strategies. The position involves collaboration with CNC programmers, machinists, Quality, and Production; troubleshooting machining and process problems; supporting new-product introduction and first-article production; and improving setup time, cycle time, tool life, process capability, and repeatability. The engineer will help document successful methods as organizational standards and develop the engineering team by teaching younger engineers how to analyze and solve problems. The manufacturing environment includes 3-, 4-, and 5-axis CNC machining; Mazak Integrex mill-turns; horizontal machining and pallet automation; CNC turning; Swiss machining; complex workholding and fixturing; tight-tolerance components; First Article Inspection and AS9102 requirements; and AS9100 manufacturing systems. Reata is investing in automation, advanced machining, in-process probing and inspection, standardized tooling, CAM and programming automation, machine connectivity, data-driven manufacturing, and lights-out production.

Requirements

  • Meaningful experience developing machining processes in a precision manufacturing environment.
  • Significant experience in precision CNC machining and the ability to have credible technical conversations with experienced machinists and programmers.
  • Ability to evaluate prints, models, and manufacturing processes and identify ways to make parts simpler, faster, more repeatable, or less expensive to produce.
  • Enjoys working on the shop floor to solve problems with the people making the parts.
  • Ability to mentor younger engineers without micromanaging them.
  • Comfort challenging established methods and remaining curious and open to learning.
  • Approximately 7 or more years of manufacturing, machining, programming, or manufacturing engineering experience is likely for a strong candidate; the employer emphasizes accomplishments over years.
  • A bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline is welcome, but exceptional hands-on manufacturing knowledge gained through machining, programming, and manufacturing experience may also be considered.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in aerospace, defense, medical-device, or similarly demanding manufacturing.
  • Experience with 5-axis machining, mill-turn equipment, CAM programming, tooling, fixturing, automation, or process development.
  • Interest in automation, in-process probing and inspection, better workholding, standardized tooling, setup-time reduction, CAM and programming automation, machine connectivity, data-driven manufacturing, or lights-out production.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and improve machining processes for prototype and production work.
  • Determine machine selection, operation sequence, tooling, workholding, and inspection strategy.
  • Work closely with CNC programmers, machinists, Quality, and Production.
  • Troubleshoot difficult machining and process problems.
  • Support new-product introduction and first-article production.
  • Improve setup time, cycle time, tool life, process capability, and overall repeatability.
  • Turn successful processes into standards for the organization.
  • Mentor and develop younger engineers by teaching them how to think through manufacturing problems.
  • Help improve quoting assumptions and make manufacturing knowledge more broadly available across the organization.
