About The Position

MISUMI Americas is seeking a senior-level, hands-on Manufacturing Engineer to define how custom parts are built and priced. The role reviews manufacturability, generates competitive quotes, and provides design feedback to help bring products to market faster. It serves as a technical authority for improving costing and design-for-manufacturability (DFM) quality across regions, working at the interface of customers who order parts, manufacturing partners, and sales professionals. The position also coaches and mentors engineers and collaborates with the Global Capability Center (GCC) Costing and DFM team. Work includes reviewing release packages, determining manufacturing feasibility and lead times, generating quotes, developing cost calculators for new service offerings, providing DFM and design-for-assembly feedback, improving automated quoting, and producing 2D drawings to ANSI/ASME Y14.5 standards. The engineer helps establish costing and DFM best practices, reviews work, and leads cross-functional and dotted-line initiatives across engineering, sourcing, sales, quality, software, and regional teams. All employees are expected to maintain and contribute to the QMS. The role works primarily remotely and involves computer-based work, including prolonged periods at a workstation reviewing CAD models and 2D drawings. Occasional visits to manufacturing partner facilities may involve shop-floor conditions such as noise and moving equipment, as well as moving about the facility. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Requirements

  • A 4-year Mechanical Engineering degree or equivalent technical training.
  • 5–10 years of relevant experience in manufacturing engineering, costing/DFM, or related custom mechanical hardware work.
  • Hands-on experience with multiple custom mechanical manufacturing processes, such as sheet metal, urethane casting, and injection molding; CNC machining and 3D printing experience are required.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T and conventional (coordinate) tolerancing.
  • Deep knowledge of the manufacturability and limitations of common metals and plastics.
  • Experience mentoring or coaching engineers and serving as a technical resource.
  • Ability to lead through influence and coordinate cross-functional or dotted-line teams without direct reporting authority.
  • Ability to work autonomously, own workload end to end, exercise independent technical judgment, and drive decisions to closure in a remote environment with minimal oversight.
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills and comfort working across multicultural, cross-functional teams.
  • Meticulous, detail-oriented approach and a documentation mindset.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience collaborating with offshore/GCC teams.
  • Experience with APQP/PPAP, IQ/OQ/PQ, EV/DV/PV, or NPI processes.
  • PMP certification.
  • Experience in AS9100, ISO 13485, or other highly regulated industries is highly recommended.

Responsibilities

  • Review models, drawings, parts lists, and other release-package data to determine scope of work, manufacturing feasibility, requirements, and minimum lead time.
  • Generate quotes using engineering analysis and platform recommendations, or collaborate with external suppliers to establish quoting parameters.
  • Build cost calculators using fabrication expertise and knowledge of process cost drivers to bring quoting in-house for new service offerings.
  • Provide design-for-manufacturability and design-for-assembly feedback, recommending changes that improve manufacturability, reduce part cost, or ease assembly.
  • Provide insights to the quoting software team to improve automated quoting accuracy across manufacturing services.
  • Produce high-quality 2D drawings in accordance with ANSI/ASME Y14.5 standards.
  • Coach and mentor engineers on the US and GCC Costing and DFM teams.
  • Establish and document costing and DFM best practices, review work, and provide feedback to improve technical accuracy and consistency across regions.
  • Lead through influence across engineering, sourcing, sales, quality, and software, aligning stakeholders on costing and DFM decisions.
  • Guide and coordinate technical work of engineers who do not report to this role, including GCC and cross-regional partners, and keep shared initiatives on track.
  • Maintain and contribute to the QMS.

  • Comprehensive medical coverage.
  • Comprehensive dental coverage.
  • 401(k) plan.
