About The Position

The Senior Manufacturing Engineer provides ideas, technical support, project/program management, and expertise to Plant Operations across multiple shifts. This engineer supports activities related to chronic equipment/process problem solving, equipment troubleshooting, Overall Equipment Effectiveness improvement, equipment specification, and Total Productive Maintenance. Develops and implement strategies / projects to improve reliability and cost performance for assigned Value Stream. The Senior ME will provide overall leadership and direction for an AP5 Value Stream. This role will serve as the primary contact within the plant to provide technical support and consultation on the plant infrastructure and facility support systems. Provide technical expertise on plant layout, connections into/out of the plant, and in the troubleshooting of facility operational issues. Provides this technical support and expertise to Plant Operations across multiple shifts. Provide technical leadership, program management, and expertise to Plant Operations, to include providing leadership and direction to the maintenance team. Be the single point of contact for technical changes to assigned area and accountable for decision making process. Improve and direct Preventive Maintenance plan for assigned area. Root cause-based troubleshooting, schematic reading, PLC's and ladder logic programming, variable frequency drives, Ethernet communications, Vision Systems and safety procedures such as Lock Out -Tag Out. Support all plant objectives in the areas of EHS, Schedule Attainment, Spoilage & Yield, Labor & Overtime, Productivity, Spare Parts cost controls and Lean Manufacturing. Execute routine equipment purchases, to include presenting justification for capital expenses or process improvements, design and specification of equipment and standardization of equipment within manufacturing methods and safety requirements. First response to our maintenance employees when guidance or assistance is required. This will include some after hours and weekend supervision. Establish, develop, implement and sustain world-class practices in our Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) program and drive continuous improvement in the areas of uptime and cost controls. Coordinate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineer (AME) efforts to ensure operational efficiency goals are met. Provide support, direction and training to AMEs, Process Improvement Engineers, maintenance, systems and shop projects with specification, drawings, equipment/process acceptance, and troubleshooting. Initiate and integrate activities to resolve repetitive production problems and implement preventive maintenance programs on key pieces of equipment to improve process output reliability. Provide leadership to hourly maintenance employees to ensure day-to-day production requirements. Establish measured work practices for maintenance employees, to include documentation of work performed and the time required to perform it. Provide training and aid in troubleshooting and downtime response in specified area of expertise. Drive uptime and equipment reliability improvements through simplification activities. Own the 5S in the area and enforce adherence. Support as required: Equipment design and specification development Planning for integration into operations. Support the installation, debug and programming of equipment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other equivalent technical work experience.
  • Ability to implement long-term plans into day-to-day operations.
  • Skills to include interpersonal, facilitation, positive multi-level verbal/written communication and team building.
  • Demonstrated Project Management skills.
  • Proven Mechanical and Electrical/PLC Diagnostic and Technical Skills required.
  • Proven PLC Controls/Electrical troubleshooting a must.
  • Solid Computer skills (i.e. Microsoft suite, software/programming and PLC).
  • Proven shop floor troubleshooting skills.
  • Proven problem-solving skills.
  • Previous supervisory experience and/or experience working directly with high volume manufacturing Production Operations and Union Operators.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills through coaching, training and positive influencing.
  • Position supports 24/7 manufacturing facilities.
  • Occasional off shift, on call and weekend work may be required.

  • Green Belt Certified, Black Belt Certified.
  • Minimum 5 years of support operations or maintenance supervision experience.
  • Design/Tooling/new product launch background a plus.
  • Self-motivated: ability to balance multiple priorities and effectively determine level of responsiveness and resource allocation.
  • Skilled Union trades management experience.
