About The Position

Amazon is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Engineer specializing in CNC machining to lead precision machining operations. This role serves as the technical lead for machining strategy, equipment selection, process development, and operational readiness. You will partner with internal teams and external providers to manage machining systems that support our products. This role requires deep experience with multi-axis CNC machining, fixturing, tooling, and process validation, along with the ability to think holistically—connecting machine selection, process architecture, and operational performance. You will act as a technical leader within the broader engineering organization, driving alignment and execution across design, quality, and other domains.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Math, Operations Research, or a related field
  • 7+ years of experience working with complex, high-throughput systems or operational environments
  • Experience owning and optimizing end-to-end processes, including performance, reliability, and quality outcomes
  • Experience selecting, configuring, and deploying technical systems or platforms in a production environment
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze system performance and drive improvements in efficiency, utilization, and consistency
  • Experience working with external partners or vendors to deliver technical solutions
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience working across engineering, operations, and quality teams
  • Proficiency in data-driven decision making, including use of metrics, statistical methods, and structured problem solving

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline
  • Experience designing and scaling complex systems or platforms in high-volume environments
  • Deep understanding of automation, orchestration, or workflow optimization in production systems
  • Experience developing and implementing monitoring, validation, or control frameworks
  • Familiarity with system architecture trade-offs, standardization strategies, and lifecycle management
  • Experience driving continuous improvement initiatives with measurable impact on performance and reliability
  • Strong technical leadership experience, including setting direction and influencing across teams
  • Experience evaluating and integrating emerging technologies into existing systems
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable plans for diverse stakeholders

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end strategy for CNC machining operations, defining process capabilities, throughput expectations, and quality benchmarks
  • Drive selection and procurement of CNC equipment, evaluating machine platforms, tooling systems, and workholding solutions to establish standardized, scalable approaches
  • Define tooling strategies, including cutter selection, tool life management, optimization programs, and vendor engagement
  • Design and optimize layouts and machining workflows to improve material flow, machine utilization, and overall efficiency
  • Develop and implement machining process plans, including CAM programming standards, setup procedures, and in-process validation methods
  • Lead fixturing and workholding strategies across part families to ensure repeatability, precision, and efficient changeover
  • Build and manage relationships with machine tool OEMs, tooling suppliers, and integration partners, leading technical evaluation, qualification, and deployment of solutions
  • Continuously improve machining processes to increase efficiency, reduce cycle times, and improve tool life and surface finish outcomes
  • Establish and maintain comprehensive documentation, including process sheets, control plans, FMEAs, and standard operating procedures
  • Partner with design engineering teams to provide DFM feedback and ensure part designs are optimized for machinability and production readiness
  • Collaborate with quality and metrology teams to define inspection strategies, SPC frameworks, and capability study requirements
  • Work cross-functionally to ensure cohesive planning, integration, and execution across machining and adjacent manufacturing processes
  • Evaluate emerging machining technologies, materials, and techniques and recommend strategic investments to enhance capabilities
