We are currently seeking a Senior Managing Scientist for our Chemical Regulation and Food Safety Practice. Location is flexible. In this role, you will provide strategic regulatory expertise and oversight for complex client engagements. You will lead multidisciplinary project teams, drive practice growth through business development and thought leadership, mentor and develop technical staff, and expand Exponent's presence in the regulatory, product stewardship, and sustainability marketplace.

Requirements

  • B.S. degree is required.
  • Ten (10) or more years of EPA TSCA regulatory experience. This position requires knowledge, solid understanding, and practical experience with U.S. EPA TSCA regulations for chemicals
  • Ten (10) or more years of consulting or government regulatory experience
  • Proven track record of business generation and attracting new and repeat clients or funding
  • Extensive background in regulatory compliance and risk assessment related to product stewardship and sustainability
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to independently prepare, edit, and proofread technical and regulatory documents
  • Must be detail-oriented, able to work independently, and manage time effectively
  • Strong ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Exposure to sensitive information will necessitate considerable use of tact, diplomacy, discretion, and judgment

Nice To Haves

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in a science-related field is preferred
  • Experience with project management, budget tracking, and invoicing a plus

Responsibilities

  • Leveraging deep knowledge of product stewardship and sustainability to address a wide range of complex challenges across diverse client sectors, delivering scientifically rigorous and impactful solutions
  • Developing clients through business development and marketing efforts
  • Conducting regulatory compliance and risk assessments to support product stewardship and sustainability initiatives for clients across a variety of industries and product types
  • Maintaining and growing trusted relationships with existing clients by consistently delivering high-quality work, anticipating future needs, and serving as a strategic advisor
  • Managing and tracking client projects, project deliverables, invoices, and budgets
  • Providing regulatory and technical review and quality control support for projects
  • Synthesizing technical and regulatory information for clients and regulators
  • Providing scientific technical peer review
  • Mentoring junior staff
