About The Position

Exponent is seeking a Senior Managing Scientist for its Biomechanics Practice in Philadelphia, PA or Natick, MA. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to solve complex technical problems for clients, often in urgent and high-profile situations. Projects will span various client needs, including human performance, health and wellness technologies, consumer products, and digital health, with a focus on executing consulting projects related to human injury analyses. This includes analyzing the human body's response to forces, determining the cause of injuries, and assessing mitigation strategies. The position offers the opportunity to shape an individual consulting practice based on personal skills and interests.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Biomechanics, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Kinesiology, Movement Science, Physical Therapy, or a related field.
  • An existing client base, a proven business development and client management track record, and the ability to attract projects to support full-time staff.
  • 7+ years of experience (post-graduate).
  • Presently legally authorized to work in the United States; no immigration sponsorship or processing required.
  • Experience in using, and/or testing, and evaluating cutting-edge technologies related to human performance, health, and wellness.
  • Experience in computational programming (e.g., Python, MATLAB), with an emphasis in algorithm design/development and testing, signal processing, and back-end analytics modeling.
  • Demonstrated experience in study design and associated statistical analyses.
  • Demonstrated success in independently developing and managing client relationships.
  • Outstanding reputation among clients for integrity, responsiveness, and technical expertise.
  • Targeted business development plan for specific clients/sectors.
  • Ability to attract projects to support full-time staff and to manage and develop a group of highly motivated individuals.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with litigation consulting a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and develop new and existing client relationships, identifying business development opportunities.
  • Manage projects from initiation to completion, including cost control.
  • Create and utilize analytical tools, synthesizing technical and biomechanical issues involving kinematics, dynamics, physiology, and data analytics (e.g., AI/ML).
  • Write proposals for new and existing opportunities in human performance, health, and wellness technology, consumer products, and digital health sectors.
  • Design and execute human experiments to quantify and interpret health, wellness, and performance characteristics in naturalistic movement environments.
  • Conduct safety assessments related to injury potential from product use or misuse (consumer, medical, industrial).
  • Apply state-of-the-art analytical approaches for technology and consumer product insights, and optimal technology integration strategies.
  • Assist in research, publishing reports and papers, and presenting findings at meetings and conferences.
  • Recruit and develop junior staff.
  • Identify and perform original research to advance biomechanics knowledge.
  • Actively participate in the Biomechanics Practice and market its technical capabilities to clients and the scientific community.
