About The Position

Reporting to the Associate Director, Sponsored Programs, Post Award, the Senior Managing Post Award Officer (SMPAO) is responsible for overseeing financial and reporting aspects of a portfolio. This position will have a high level of autonomy and be expected to work independently in the completion of all duties related to their portfolio. These include but not limited to the review and approval of cost transfers, financial reporting, and award closeout activities. The SMPAO is responsible for providing excellent customer service to faculty, administrators, peers, and sponsors in managing the financial aspects of sponsored projects; serves as back-up to the Associate Director, Sponsored Programs, Post Award where needed; reinforcing and ensuring both the University's compliance and sponsor requirements; and other projects as assigned. This position requires the ability to independently solve difficult problems using logic, methods, and effective solutions. The SMPAO maintains an advanced knowledge of federal and non-federal Sponsor requirements as well as University policies. Has the ability to communicate these policies and requirements to colleagues and customers. The SMPAO will have a high level of emotional intelligence, work effectively with colleagues and peers, know when to escalate issues, and promotes a professional environment at all times. They will endeavor to be direct but diplomatic. The SMPAO maintains a strong working relationship with Pre-Award colleagues to ensure seamless service of the Project Lifecycle to the Research Community. The SMPAO actively contributes to the overall organizational needs of Sponsored Programs. If individual is not currently certified, the SMPAO is encouraged to sit for the Certification Research Administrator (CRA) Exam.
