About The Position

Since 1984, Larkin Street Youth Services has helped more than 75,000 young adults in San Francisco with outreach, shelter, housing, education, employment, healthcare, and other services. Today, Larkin Street Youth Services is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless youth in the Bay Area. We serve 1,500 youth annually, operating or partnering to provide more than 500 emergency shelter, transitional, supportive, and subsidy-based housing beds at several unique sites across San Francisco. Requirements

  • Passionate about the Larkin Street Youth Services mission to end youth homelessness.
  • BA in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 8-10+ years of progressive facilities management experience.
  • At least 3-5 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance practices, and safety regulations.
  • Proven experience managing budgets and capital projects.
  • Ability to lead facilities teams and manage vendor relationships.
  • General maintenance and repair proficiency (multi-craft/handyman-level skills spanning basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and painting) sufficient to assess, triage, and perform minor repairs across facilities.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Comfortable driving to various facilities in Bay Area geographies, including San Francisco, Berkeley, and South San Francisco.
  • Willing to work on call on nights and weekends as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a non-profit, healthcare or community based organization is preferred.
  • Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Facilities Management Professional (FMP), or equivalent certification is preferred.
  • Familiarity with sustainability initiatives and green building practices.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of all organizational facilities, including offices, program sites, and community spaces.
  • Ensure buildings and systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, security) are maintained and operating efficiently.
  • Develop preventative maintenance programs to extend asset life and minimize disruptions.
  • Manage space planning, utilization, and office moves.
  • Develop and implement long-term facilities strategy aligned with agency growth and mission.
  • Plan and oversee capital improvement projects, renovations, and new site development.
  • Partner with leadership on expansion, relocation, or consolidation initiatives.
  • Ensure sustainability and energy efficiency practices are integrated into planning.
  • Develop and manage the facilities budget, including operating and capital expenditures.
  • Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality or safety.
  • Oversee procurement processes for equipment, supplies, and services.
  • Select and manage external vendors, contractors, and service providers.
  • Negotiate contracts and ensure adherence to service-level agreements.
  • Monitor vendor performance and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA and ADA standards.
  • Develop and enforce safety policies and emergency preparedness plans.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to facilities compliance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop facilities staff, including maintenance and custodial teams.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and customer service.
  • Set performance goals and conduct regular evaluations.
  • Partner with program, operations, IT, and HR teams to support agency needs.
  • Serve as primary point of contact for facilities-related concerns across departments.
  • Support a welcoming, inclusive, and accessible environment for clients, staff, and visitors.
  • Other duties as required.
