About The Position

Allstate is seeking a creative, collaborative, and high-energy attorney to join their Business Law division within the Law and Regulation department. This role focuses on counseling clients on a wide range of complex commercial agreements, primarily supporting Allstate’s non-insurance businesses. The ideal candidate will possess strong business acumen, transactional skills, an ability to embrace complexity, and a passion for partnering with sales and cross-functional teams to achieve results across multiple business areas. This is a remote position with some travel required.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctorate and active bar membership in good standing.
  • A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, preferably in a law firm or the in-house legal department of a mid- to large-sized organization.
  • Proven expertise in one or more of the following areas: commercial contracting, privacy, technology, artificial intelligence, intellectual property, corporate strategy, data governance, international operations, and/or highly regulated industries.
  • Experience working within a corporate parent company and across a family of affiliated entities.
  • Strong leadership capabilities with a focus on collaboration, team development, mentoring, and strategic guidance.
  • Executive presence with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Solid project management skills, including the ability to prioritize and deliver across multiple workstreams.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant legal or business technology tools.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Demonstrated discretion and professionalism in handling sensitive and confidential information.
  • High business acumen, including the ability to assess and communicate legal risk in a commercial context and contribute to the development of business cases and return-on-investment evaluations.
  • Thrives in supporting sales teams through commercial contracting in fast-paced environments.
  • Brings process-building skills and a desire to drive efficiency.
  • Contributes creative solutions and innovative thinking.
  • Balances both legal rigor and business pragmatism.
  • Values diverse perspectives and fosters inclusive collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Structure, draft, and negotiate complex commercial agreements, particularly those involving technology sales, data, or service arrangements.
  • Provide real-time, business-focused legal advice on complex commercial contracts, technology, and privacy matters.
  • Collaborate effectively across business units, compliance, and legal teams to identify issues, develop solutions, and complete commercial transactions.
  • Lead the development of templates, playbooks, and process improvements to enhance contract review and negotiation efficiency.
  • Anticipate legal issues and offer practical, innovative solutions in fast-paced and dynamic business environments.
  • Foster alignment between business goals and legal frameworks in regulated industries.
  • Navigate ambiguity and contribute to shaping emerging business models and opportunities.
  • Contribute to a culture of open dialogue and collaborative problem-solving within a distributed, virtual team.
  • Provide supervisory duties over individual contributors, contractors, consultants, and temps as necessary.
