About The Position

PFM seeks a Senior Managing Consultant to join our Public Power financial advisory practice. This position is eligible for a remote or hybrid work arrangement. Travel to client sites will be required. PFM is the leading advisor to Public Power utilities nationwide, including large and sophisticated municipal electric systems, joint action agencies, public utility districts, community choice aggregators, and state power authorities. The Senior Managing Consultant will play a central role in transaction execution, client advisory, and the long-term growth of the practice. The ideal candidate is an experienced public finance professional who brings a deep understanding of the Public Power and municipal utilities sector, strong leadership capability, and the ability to drive transaction execution and client relationships in a fast-paced and collaborative environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university
  • At least 4 years of related work experience in public finance, investment banking, or related advisory roles (public power or municipal utilities sector preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience completing financial transactions from start to finish, including complex financial modeling and quantitative analysis
  • MSRB Series 50 certification or ability to obtain certification within 45 days of hire
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. for any employer without visa sponsorship now or in the future

  • Strong understanding of municipal utility financing tools and structures
  • Familiarity with public power and municipal utility business model
  • Ability to distill complex financial and strategic analysis into clear, actionable recommendations for varied audiences, including boards and elected officials
  • Superior quantitative, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrates unwavering integrity and instills confidence in clients and colleagues
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Strong working knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and bond structuring/analytics software (e.g., DBC Finance® or comparable platforms)

Responsibilities

  • Lead structuring and execution of bond transactions and other financial projects, ensuring that projects are delivered on time and meet client expectations
  • Lead and manage financing teams, overseeing the work of analysts, associates and outside professionals to ensure high-quality execution
  • Develop and analyze financing options and strategic recommendations tailored to our clients’ capital financing needs
  • Manage preparation of client deliverables and present financial analysis, recommendations, reports and other materials to clients at meetings
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, prospective clients, and industry contacts
  • Research and understand industry trends, regulations, and the competitive environment within the sector to inform strategic recommendations
  • Manage, mentor, and train financial analysts
  • Collaborate across internal teams and external partners to support the long-term growth of the practice and the broader firm
  • Work seamlessly with team members across offices, including those with varying levels of in-office presence
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and industry best practices
