About The Position

Food Bank For New York City’s Volunteer Engagement team is responsible for finding and connecting New Yorkers with opportunities to serve and support the city’s most vulnerable people, charities, and communities. Volunteers provide crucial support to Food Banks’ programs and operations, whether repacking food at our Warehouse, serving nutritious meals at our Kitchen or using special skills to support with administrative functions.  The Senior Manager will oversee volunteer programs and activities at our Bronx Distribution Center. This role manages day-to-day volunteer operations, ensuring a positive, well-organized experience for all participants. The Senior Manager will oversee scheduling and recruitment for opportunities including Repacks, Farmers Markets, and Mobile Pantries, working closely with members of the Volunteer Engagement and Corporate Engagement teams. The role will also cultivate relationships with community groups to build sustained volunteer partnerships. In addition, the Senior Manager will collaborate regularly with the Operations team to ensure volunteer support effectively aligns with operational needs. The Senior Manager, Volunteer Engagement may oversee warehouse professionals, service members and/or interns who help to facilitate volunteer opportunities at the Distribution Center as necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience
  • 3+ years of experience in managing volunteer programming
  • 1-2 years' experience managing others
  • Experience working in a warehouse environment
  • Proven experience designing and executing successful large-scale service initiatives, including working with high-level donors and corporate partners
  • Excellent communication skills with a high level of comfort with public speaking and training/facilitation
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to meet deadlines and work well under pressure
  • Ability to work with flexibility, efficiency, and diplomacy both individually and as part of a complex team effort
  • Demonstrated success in managing, mentoring, and motivating people
  • Excellent knowledge of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Experience with database management, preferably Salesforce/HandsOn Connect
  • Knowledge of poverty and hunger issues

Responsibilities

  • Manage all scheduling, project design, recruitment and volunteer management for all opportunities at the Bronx Distribution Center and Mobile Pantries.
  • Liase with Distribution Center and Mobile Pantry staff to ensure a best-in-class volunteer experience and to ensure volunteers are effectively meeting current needs. 
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with community partners, providing reliable communication, scheduling, and high-quality experiences.
  • Maintain clean and organized volunteer spaces at the Distribution Center and oversee project supply inventory and budget.
  • Support the Corporate Engagement team in planning, coordinating and facilitating custom offsite corporate volunteer events.
  • Supervise warehouse professionals, service members and/or student interns, including onboarding, orientation, and coaching and coordination with community partners.
  • Support the execution of a volunteer recognition program, including planning and execution of the annual Volunteer Appreciation Party.
  • Oversee an in-kind donor program that provides refreshments for volunteers, including partner cultivation and inventory management.
  • Partner with the Director and Manager to set, implement, and evaluate team goals and strategy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
