About The Position

We are seeking a strategic and results-driven Senior Manager, Trade Compliance to lead a team of import and export professionals and oversee the implementation and compliance with regulatory, corporate, and U.S. and Canadian trade compliance requirements while facilitating business growth in a compliant environment. This role will drive successful business outcomes across both new and ongoing programs and is critical to achieving company financial objectives. You will provide expert guidance to the senior leadership team on licensing strategy, risk mitigation, and compliance—ensuring alignment with Trade Compliance laws and regulations through deep understanding of export controls, regulations, and industry trends.

  • Must possess full working knowledge or ITAR, EAR, EIPA, CGP, DPA and Customs regulations with specific experience in jurisdiction and classification analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to read, comprehend, interpret and follow complicated written and verbal instructions, interpret regulations.
  • Ability to manage a diverse group of employees and build strong relationships with people at all levels. Works to influence others to accept individual or team’s views or practices and changes to concepts, practices and approaches.
  • Prior experience supporting defense, aerospace, or high-tech industries
  • General knowledge of product definition and manufacturing processes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office required (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams).
  • Willingness to take on project ownership and accountability.
  • Experience in Trade Compliance or a related field, including U.S. and Canadian Export Control Laws and Regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in leading organizational growth, establishing strategies, and driving scalable process improvements.
  • Expertise in developing and implementing team performance measures and metrics.
  • Must be able to travel as necessary. (Up to 10% travel).
  • Requires broad management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams or manage across the function.
  • Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 12 years of prior related experience.
  • Graduate Degree with a minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 16 years of prior related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of trade professionals, providing direction, setting priorities, and fostering professional development to ensure high performance and alignment with organizational goals.
  • Influence business and financial outcomes by providing licensing guidance and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Establish and enforce policies and procedures and U.S. and Canadian regulatory requirements, ensuring the division operates within corporate guidelines and adheres to best practices.
  • Drive continuous improvement in department processes to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the program.
  • Act as the Empowered Official (EO), responsible for the effective and compliant execution of the division level Trade Compliance program.
  • Oversee the export compliance program including, jurisdiction and classification and export / brokering license or permit process for commodities, software, technical data and related defense services under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Canada’s Export and Import Permits Act (EIPA) and Controlled Goods Program (CGP) / Defence Production Act (DPA).
  • Oversee import compliance including HS classification, Free Trade Agreement analysis, and monitoring Customs Broker activities.
  • Lead the development and execution of Trade Compliance training to stakeholders to increase the organization’s awareness of Trade Compliance policies, procedures and applicable laws related to trade, exports and import compliance.
  • Conduct internal compliance audits and self-assessments and support compliance reporting to government regulatory authorities and internal/external audits.
  • Oversee investigations of non-compliance with import/export laws and regulations
  • Ensure that licenses align with revenue recognition policies and meet export control laws and regulations. Managing escalations as required.
  • Manage and develop the trade compliance team, providing coaching, training, and manpower planning to ensure an efficient and well-trained staff.
  • Advise management on contractual rights, obligations, and legal issues, including effective use of resources and risk management.
  • Collaborate with other business functions to integrate trade compliance laws and regulations within their procedures and ensure alignment with business goals and objectives.
