About The Position

As the head of talent acquisition (TA), the senior manager ensures alignment between the organization’s talent, recruitment, and onboarding needs and the objectives, resources, and performance of the TA team. This position is responsible for developing overall and position-specific recruitment strategies, implementing best practice programs and methods, and collaborating with hiring managers and other stakeholders to attract talented and experienced individuals who align with our values, and contribute to our global public service mission. On a regular basis, the senior manager leverages data-driven tools and metrics in support of process improvement initiatives, standardized policies and procedures, and efficient recruiting practices. The senior manager oversees a recruiting team that actively interfaces with hiring managers to source, assess, and hire prospective staff, including internal transfers, temporary staff, and external candidates. This position is based in Pew’s Washington, DC office and reports to the senior director, talent management and development. This position participates in Pew’s hybrid work program with core days in the office and the flexibility to telework the remaining days. Staff also enjoy four telework “flex weeks” per year.

Requirements

  • Generally requires a minimum of 8 years of professional recruiting and sourcing experience, including both domestic and international hiring; experience in the nonprofit sector and/or professional services preferred.
  • Staff, project, and/or consultant management experience; bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • At least three years of previous management/supervisory experience, providing performance feedback and proven ability to motivate and engage employees to achieve maximum performance.
  • Strong business orientation. Focused on key business priorities and deliverables while balancing short-term needs with longer term strategic intent.
  • Demonstrated track record in using internal and external data, systems, costs and trends to understand issues, identify patterns, make recommendations and influence decisions.
  • Strong trusted-advisor, interpersonal, and effective communication skills, resulting in trusting, productive relationships at all levels and thoughtful, timely counsel to stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated project management and problem-solving experience working both independently and in teams.
  • Experience in a fast-paced and results-oriented environment where standards are high and data is processed expeditiously and efficiently.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicant tracking and Microsoft Office systems.
  • Knowledge of Workday preferred.

Responsibilities

  • In collaboration with the senior director, talent management, set strategies, design new initiatives, benchmark best practices, create policies, establish success metrics, and monitor results. Ensure the TA function’s work is aligned with other HR areas in support of overall HR objectives and business needs.
  • Oversee domestic and international recruitment efforts. Work with TA team and hiring managers to create recruitment strategies.
  • Manage and direct the day-to-day activity of the talent acquisition team; coach, mentor, and develop individual staff.
  • Create and develop tools and training on sourcing, recruiting, and evaluating talent.
  • Foster a work environment that inspires excellence, values impact, encourages transparency, builds mutual trust and respect, embraces and values diversity, and is collaborative, caring and compassionate.
  • Build and manage recruiting collateral, campaigns, channels and candidate pools; maintain mechanisms to expand and track networks/contacts/alumni and potential candidates.
  • In collaboration with the senior vice president, people and workplace, lead executive level and C-suite recruiting assignments.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with search firms.
  • In collaboration with the senior director, manage recruiting budget, including budget development, effective oversight, tracking, and reporting of costs throughout the year.
  • Manage all aspects of recruiting contracts, including negotiation of terms with vendors.
