About The Position

Provides visionary, strategic and technical leadership while directing Xcel Energy's Substation Field Engineering activities for high voltage substations. Accountable for providing resident technical matter expertise and real-time technical support to construction, maintenance and operations teams for high voltage substations. Manages root cause analysis of equipment failures and event investigations. Accountable for assigned portions of Xcel Energy NERC/FERC compliance responsibilities, goals and objectives. Accountable for attainment of corporate and business unit goals and objectives. Committed to employee development.

Requirements

BS in engineering (electrical preferred).
Minimum of 10 years' relevant engineering experience.
Professional Engineering registration required.
Demonstrates technical expertise while serving as a technical resource to others.
Familiar with Xcel Energy safety programs and requirements, OSHA, EPA, NESC, NERC and FERC regulations and compliance requirements.

Nice To Haves

Five or more years of prior management experience preferred.
Specific experience in the area of substation maintenance engineering preferred.

Responsibilities

Manages engineering support of substation maintenance activities as assigned.
Accountabilities for substation field engineering assignments include the implementation and management of substation maintenance work plans, substation event investigations and root cause analysis of equipment problems and managing the development of maintenance standards.
Accountable for the adherence and execution of operating company regulatory compliance related to system protection and CIP including all applicable NERC and regional reliability coordinator.
Establishes and champions the Department's business plan, goals and objectives in line with corporate and business unit strategic goals and initiatives.
Responsible for effective, efficient and competitive utilization of resources, with emphasis on safety, timeliness, cost-containment, system reliability, customer satisfaction, optimal asset utilization and compliance with regulations.
