About The Position

The Senior Manager will assist the Director in the implementation of the Bank’s Strategic Risk Management Framework, and underlying program activities, while ensuring the department’s business strategies, plans and initiatives are executed / delivered in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures. This role champions a customer-focused culture, assists with the timely execution of activities to establish second-line oversight over Strategic Risk, and supports the ongoing maintenance and delivery of artefacts resulting from various risk programs. The Senior Manager will also develop plans to remediate issues, collaborate with internal stakeholders, and maintain awareness of industry best practices and regulatory requirements. Additionally, they will carry out special projects and ensure an understanding of the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture in daily activities.

Requirements

  • University degree is required
  • Minimum 5 years industry experience required
  • Strong understanding of the Bank’s operations and financial sector risks
  • Superior communication skills with ability to write clearly and concisely

Nice To Haves

  • Spanish language fluency is strongly preferred
  • MBA and/or professional designation (CPA, CFA, FRM) is an asset

Responsibilities

  • Champions a customer focused culture to deepen stakeholder relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.
  • Assist with timely execution of activities to establish second line oversight over Strategic Risk as per the transformation roadmap to enhance management and oversight of strategic risk.
  • Support the ongoing maintenance and delivery of artefacts resulting from the Strategic Risk Transformation, Risk Acceptance Program, and Country Risk Deep Dives Program.
  • Develop plans to remediate issues raised by Internal Audit and/or regulatory examinations and supports the Risk Oversight Reporting function on activities relating to GRM Regulatory Compliance Management Program for Strategic & Reputational Risks.
  • Collaborate with other internal stakeholders including business lines, business line GRM teams, control and support functions (e.g. Legal, HR, Audit, etc.) to maintain effective internal communication and stakeholder management for in-flight programs.
  • Maintains ongoing awareness of industry best practices and regulatory requirements and communicates findings with recommendations to management.
  • Carries out special projects relating to enterprise risk or other relevant topics/areas as requested by the Director and/or senior management.
  • Understand how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.
  • Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.
