Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives - Special Projects

Crusoe•Denver, CO
•$175,000 - $215,000

About The Position

Crusoe is hiring a Senior Manager for its Strategic Initiatives team to work directly with the President/CSO and other leaders on major business decisions and execution. The role combines strategic thinking, analysis, executive writing, relationship-building with internal and external partners, and leadership of mission-critical projects. The successful candidate will gather facts and stakeholders, develop clear recommendations, and drive decisions. Once initiatives are approved, this person will often lead execution until a permanent owner takes over. The role may involve working in operational settings such as job sites or factory floors as well as in executive settings. The Senior Manager will develop executive recommendations by defining decision-makers, options, and success conditions; collaborating with product, engineering, and finance stakeholders; preparing concise memos covering context, financial analysis, options, tradeoffs, and recommendations; and supporting recommendations with models that include unit economics, scenarios, and capacity plans. The role will also launch approved programs, set goals and milestones, manage budgets and teams, run pilots, assess whether to scale or change course, and coordinate functions and external partners through handoff to a business-unit leader. The position also leads cross-business-unit projects and other work without a clear team owner, supports the President's office with leadership meetings, board and investor materials, international expansion, deal evaluations, and incoming request screening, and contributes wherever needed. Crusoe Spark, its modular data center business, originated as a program on this team. The role calls for 7–10 years of relevant experience, including meaningful operating-company experience, strong executive writing and financial modeling skills, experience moving programs from approved concept into operation, and domain experience in data centers, power and energy, AI compute and cloud, or manufacturing. Daily use of AI tools such as Claude or Gemini for research, analysis, and writing is expected, along with sound judgment in checking their outputs.

Requirements

  • 7–10 years of experience in management consulting, corporate strategy, investment banking, private equity, or a strategy or chief of staff role at a fast-growing infrastructure, energy, or technology company.
  • Meaningful experience at an operating company, not solely in advisory work.
  • Strong writing for senior leaders, such as investment memos, board materials, or strategy recommendations supported by numbers; a writing sample and case exercise will be required.
  • Experience taking a program from approved idea to day-to-day operation, including changing course and handing it off to a permanent owner.
  • Ability to build financial models from scratch, including scenarios.
  • Comfort with capital-heavy businesses, including megawatts, cost per kilowatt, capital expenditure, and lead times.
  • Experience in at least one of these areas: data centers, power and energy, AI compute and cloud, or manufacturing.
  • Daily use of AI tools such as Claude or Gemini for research, analysis, and writing, with the judgment to verify their outputs.
  • Clear writing, including the ability to explain a complex problem in one page.
  • Ownership mentality and accountability for project analysis, stakeholders, recommendations, and results.
  • Ability to work effectively across busy teams and make their work easier.
  • Range and flexibility to handle varied work, such as site visits, contract reviews, and board materials.
  • Intellectual curiosity about technical and operational topics.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience preparing board or investor materials at a late-stage private company.
  • Experience launching a new product, business line, or venture within a larger company or at a startup.
  • Experience with international market entry or cross-border deals, especially in Latin America or Europe.
  • Spanish or Portuguese language skills.
  • Experience scaling manufacturing or with lean operations.
  • An MBA or a quantitative graduate degree.

Responsibilities

  • Define executive decisions, including decision-makers, options, and conditions for each option to succeed.
  • Work with product, engineering, finance, and other stakeholders to develop recommendations and concise executive memos.
  • Build supporting financial models covering unit economics, scenarios, and capacity plans.
  • Turn approved recommendations into programs with goals, milestones, budgets, executive sponsors, and working teams.
  • Run pilots to test key assumptions and recommend whether to scale, change course, or stop at checkpoints.
  • Coordinate engineering, finance, legal, real estate, and external partners through program readiness and handoff to a business-unit leader.
  • Lead projects that have no single team owner or that span business units.
  • Support the President's office with leadership meetings, board and investor materials, international expansion, and deal evaluations.
  • Screen incoming requests to the President's office and provide support wherever needed.
