About The Position

Scotiabank is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager, Software & Data Engineering to lead the design, development, modernization, and support of critical data and software platforms that enable enterprise reporting, analytics, finance, risk, regulatory, and business operations. This role combines people leadership, technical expertise, and strategic execution to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing solutions aligned with the Bank's technology and business objectives. The successful candidate will lead a team of software engineers, data engineers, and technical specialists while partnering closely with business stakeholders, enterprise architecture, information security, and technology teams across the organization.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Mathematics, or related equivalent experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in software engineering, data engineering, application development, or technology delivery.
  • 3+ years of leadership experience managing technical teams.
  • Experience delivering enterprise-scale software and data solutions in complex, highly regulated environments.
  • Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile methodologies, DevOps, and CI/CD practices.
  • Experience managing multiple projects and stakeholders simultaneously.
  • Experience with a combination of the following: Cloud Technologies (Azure, AWS, GCP), SQL, PL/SQL, Python, Java, C#, .NET, or similar technologies, Data Engineering and ETL platforms (Informatica, DataStage, Azure Data Factory, Databricks), Data Warehousing and Analytics Platforms, API and Microservices Architecture, DevOps and CI/CD tools, Version Control and Source Code Management (Git, Azure DevOps), Oracle, SQL Server, Snowflake, or other enterprise database platforms, Monitoring and Observability Solutions, Data Governance and Data Quality Frameworks.

  • Professional certifications such as PMP, Azure, AWS, Scrum Master, TOGAF, or equivalent.

  • Collaborate with architecture teams to establish engineering standards, development frameworks, and reusable design patterns.
  • Oversee application lifecycle management, software currency, and technology risk reduction initiatives.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of enterprise data platforms, data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and analytical solutions.
  • Ensure data quality, governance, lineage, reconciliation, and auditability requirements are met.
  • Support enterprise data strategies and data management practices aligned with regulatory and business requirements.
  • Oversee integration and movement of data across multiple source systems and cloud-based environments.
  • Enable advanced analytics, business intelligence, regulatory reporting, and decision-support capabilities through trusted data assets.
  • Partner with business leaders, product owners, project managers, and technology teams to define priorities and deliver strategic initiatives.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, resources, timelines, and risks across multiple concurrent initiatives.
  • Communicate project status, technical roadmaps, and key risks to senior leadership and executive stakeholders.
  • Ensure successful planning and execution of releases, production deployments, and operational transitions.
  • Ensure adherence to Scotiabank's technology standards, cybersecurity policies, governance frameworks, and risk management requirements.
  • Maintain strong controls supporting regulatory, compliance, audit, and operational risk obligations.
  • Lead incident management, root cause analysis, and implementation of sustainable corrective actions.
  • Establish and monitor KPIs, SLAs, system performance metrics, and operational health indicators.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and automation to increase platform stability and efficiency.
