About The Position

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering to lead a growing engineering organization focused on building provider-facing software solutions that help enable better care delivery and operational efficiency. This role will initially lead development teams responsible for key parts of our next generation digital platforms. These teams are central to our future direction, and this leader will play an important role in building the organization, establishing strong engineering practices, and delivering high-quality software at scale. Over time, the scope of the role is expected to grow as the organization expands. As a senior engineering leader, you will bring a balanced combination of people leadership, technical judgment, and delivery excellence. You will partner closely with product management, architecture, and peer engineering leaders to build modern, secure, scalable software while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. You will also operate effectively across regions, working closely with global teams and stakeholders, and helping create strong alignment across time zones. Requirements

  • Experienced engineering leader with significant experience leading software engineering teams that build and operate production systems, with a track record of delivering meaningful business outcomes through strong people leadership and execution.
  • Builder of teams and organizations: Knows how to build and scale teams effectively, especially in periods of growth and change. Comfortable leading a mix of managers and individual contributors, and knows how to create clarity, structure, and momentum in a developing organization.
  • Strong technical judgment: Brings enough technical depth to engage credibly in architecture, distributed systems, APIs, cloud platforms, and modern software engineering practices. Able to guide direction, ask the right questions, and make sound tradeoff decisions in partnership with technical leaders.
  • People-first leader with a strong track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing talent. Builds environments where people can do their best work, grow in their careers, and feel connected to the mission.
  • Cross-functional and globally effective: Works well across disciplines and across regions. Comfortable building strong partnerships with stakeholders in product, architecture, and adjacent teams, and can lead effectively in a global organization with distributed teams and flexible working rhythms.
  • Business and engineering balanced: Can navigate complex engineering challenges while keeping business goals, customer outcomes, and delivery realities in view.
  • Experienced in secure and privacy-conscious environments: Understands the importance of building software in environments where privacy, security, and regulatory considerations matter.
  • Experience in healthcare or other regulated industries is valued, though not required.

Responsibilities

  • Build and grow high-performing teams: Recruit, develop, and lead a growing engineering organization in San Diego, initially consisting of a mix of managers and individual contributors. Create a strong team culture grounded in trust, accountability, inclusion, and ownership.
  • Lead through scale and change: Help establish the foundations for a new engineering group, including team structure, delivery rhythms, engineering standards, and ways of working. As the organization grows, evolve the structure and leadership model to support broader scope and long-term success.
  • Drive technical direction in partnership with engineering leaders: Work closely with lead engineers and architects to guide architecture and system design decisions. Support the development of scalable, secure, maintainable platforms and services, with a strong emphasis on interoperability, resilience, and engineering quality.
  • Deliver outcomes that balance engineering and business needs: Navigate complex technical tradeoffs while staying grounded in business priorities, customer value, speed, and quality. Help teams make thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced, privacy-conscious environment.
  • Partner across functions to deliver value: Collaborate closely with product management, design, support, and other engineering teams to align priorities, manage dependencies, and deliver solutions that meet customer and business needs.
  • Create strong cross-region alignment: Serve as a key leader for a region that is organizationally important and geographically distinct from broader leadership. Build effective partnerships with teams in Sydney and Halifax, and establish operating rhythms that support strong collaboration across time zones.
  • Champion modern engineering practices: Promote strong software development practices, engineering excellence, and continuous improvement across the organization. Encourage the thoughtful adoption of modern tools, including AI-assisted development approaches, where they improve team effectiveness and delivery outcomes.
  • Use data to improve execution and outcomes: Leverage data, metrics, and team insights to improve delivery predictability, engineering health, system reliability, and user experience.
  • Communicate with clarity and influence: Translate technical concepts and delivery realities into clear, actionable communication for both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Build confidence and alignment across teams and leadership levels.
