About The Position

Kikoff is seeking a Senior Manager, SEC Reporting & Technical Accounting to own the company's external reporting and technical accounting as they prepare for an IPO. This is a founding hire role, serving as the technical accounting authority from day one. The position involves owning financial statements, building public company processes, and managing a wide scope of accounting areas including consumer credit receivables, cash advances, subscription revenue, bank partnerships, and structured financing. The role requires close collaboration with senior leadership, external auditors, and legal counsel, with the opportunity to build a team. The ideal candidate will possess national office-caliber technical judgment and strong operational drafting abilities, thriving in a start-up environment focused on building from scratch. This role is based in San Francisco, with a hybrid work arrangement (three days a week in office), and begins as an individual contributor.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in Big 4 public accounting and/or in-house SEC reporting or technical accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP and SEC reporting rules, including Regulation S-X and S-K.
  • Experience personally drafting 10-Ks and 10-Qs.
  • Experience with pre-IPO equity accounting (ASC 718, 409A, cheap stock, EPS on conversion of preferred).
  • Strong research and memo-writing skills, with the ability to defend positions to auditors.
  • Comfortable as an individual contributor with the judgment to scale the team.
  • Clear communicator, able to explain complex conclusions to non-accountants.
  • Experience reporting to counterparties (covenant certificates, borrowing base/servicer reporting, securitization reporting).
  • Ability to translate contract definitions into GAAP.
  • Some exposure to ESG reporting (SB 253, SB 261, TCFD, or SASB) or the appetite to learn it.
  • Lending, consumer credit, banking, or other regulated financial services experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Draft financial statement sections of registration statements (financial statements, footnotes, MD&A, supporting schedules) and manage the tie-out process for the auditors' comfort letter.
  • Build and manage the quarterly and annual reporting process (10-Q, 10-K, 8-K, proxy), including the close-to-file calendar, disclosure checklists, and XBRL tagging.
  • Manage the transition from private to public accounting, including emerging growth company and smaller reporting company status, transition period elections, unwinding private company alternatives, and implementing new public company disclosures.
  • Own technical accounting for all areas except revenue recognition, documenting positions in audit-ready memos for stock compensation, pre-IPO equity valuation (ASC 718), EPS (ASC 260), segments (ASC 280), internal-use software (ASC 350-40), business combinations (ASC 805), debt (ASC 470), leases (ASC 842), related party transactions, and contingencies (ASC 450 and 460).
  • Own accounting for credit and financing, including sale vs. secured borrowing on warehouse and securitization facilities (ASC 860), consolidation and VIE analysis for financing vehicles and bank partner structures (ASC 810), and fair value measurement and elections (ASC 820 and 825).
  • Track new accounting standards and SEC rulemaking, assess impact, and lead implementation.
  • Own recurring reporting for bank partners, warehouse lenders, and securitization investors, including program financial reporting, covenant compliance certificates, financial statement delivery, and reconciling loan tapes and servicer reports.
  • Maintain a crosswalk between contract definitions and GAAP sources, and ensure new standards are assessed against covenants.
  • Serve as the accounting liaison to Compliance and Legal, owning financial data for state licensing filings, loss contingencies, remediation accruals (ASC 450), and partner/regulatory submissions.
  • Track climate disclosure rules (e.g., California SB 253 and SB 261) and assess applicability.
  • Support Legal and Investor Relations on voluntary ESG, impact, and SASB disclosures, ensuring published metrics tie to audited financials and building data trails for potential assurance.
  • Establish the disclosure committee, sub-certification process, and documentation for SOX 302 certifications.
  • Partner with the SOX Director on reporting controls and own controls for the function.
  • Define and maintain non-GAAP measures and reconciliations, ensuring compliance with Reg G and Item 10(e).
  • Manage external auditors on reporting and technical matters.
  • Establish the function's operating framework, including tools, templates, and review cadence, and lead future hires.
